Hmmm...
To do:
The stuff concerning Eggsucker. Also, more detailed comparision between 2.01 and 2.70.

One of PopCap's first games, also known as simply Dynomite. It's... literally just Puzzle Bobble.

Wouldn't be the last time they ripped off a Japanese company either.

Unused Text

The usual proto-related text in most, if not all PopCap games from this era.

Revisional Differences

Copy Protection

Originally, Dynomite Deluxe was protected by a basic name/serial protection.. but in later revisions of version 2.71 (including the one currently downloadable on PopCap's site), this was changed, and is now a 60-minute trial of the fully registered version, where the actual game executable is ran by a 'wrapper' executable... which means that all the strings about unregistered versions that still exist in the version 2.71 executable end up unused.

Congratulations! You got a high score! However, you cannot record high scores in the unregistered version of Dynomite.

This change also makes images\unregistered.gif (which would have showed up on the title screen) unused too.

Level Editor

The game's level editor was, for some inexplicable reason, taken out of version 2.70. Interestingly, if you copy the files of an earlier version with the level editor intact to an installation of version 2.71, create a level and go to a Stomped Puzzle, you are still asked what level you wish to play, though the level icons now use a broken palette.

Icon

Originally, Dynomite used the same icon as Eggsucker. In version 2.70, the game's icon was redrawn in higher quality (48px 32-bit compared to original 32px 8-bit). In the last revision of the 60-minute trial version, support for Windows Game Explorer was added, and the icon was redrawn again, up to 256px.

Stomped Puzzle

By version 2.01, the name of the default puzzle set got changed from "Dynomite Default" to "DEFAULT". In version 1.20, 3 new hard difficulty levels were added: "Ricochet", "The squeeze" and "Honeycomb". In version 2.70, Round 5 was renamed from "Stalagcities" to the more correct "Stalactities".
