Operation Flashpoint: Cold War Crisis is a military shooter, where the Russians decide to invade some territories controlled by the USA.

Anti-Piracy

Hmmm...
To do:
  • Find other effects of FADE in this game.
  • Confirm if the "Original disks don't FADE" message actually appears.

The game was advertised as using a custom copy-protection called FADE, which first gives a message "Original disks don't FADE" and later adjusts the gameplay mechanics to make the game more difficult. The initial effect reduces weapon accuracy, making players incapable of striking the broad side of a barn.

This anti-piracy measure appears in later games of the series.

Some versions of Operation Flashpoint, including the rebrand patch, removed the CD check.

Revisional Differences

In 2011, Bohemia Interactive Studio rebranded the game under the title Arma: Cold War Assault, having lost access to the Operation Flashpoint trademark. The universal patch installs or copies Cold War Crisis and Resistance, but omits Red Hammer.

In addition, there's various game-breaking bugs spread across different revisions of Operation Flashpoint.

Unused Code

After Montignac has a partially-implemented script meant to prevent the player from wandering all over the island. The only trigger attempts to play a missing sound, "AwayArms".

While there are various sound effect triggers on the border of the mission area, they remain inactive as there's no kill-trigger meant to slay those straying far away.

Unused Text

The final mission, Status Quo, has unused text based on unlawful use of vehicles. There's no code to trigger these endings, and the debrief screen never appears even for this mission.

Briefing.htm contains some text concerning them:
