This page details one or more prototype versions of Tempo Jr..

So very stubbly.
This page is rather stubbly and could use some expansion.
Are you a bad enough dude to rescue this article?

As with the 32X companion, all the prototypes documented here were released by drx as part of his huge Sega prototype released on February 23, 2008.

Hmmm...
To do:
Look into all the other prototypes available.

General Differences

  • No Sega Club logo when booting the game in the U.S. region.
  • The only sound effects that exist are for playing the notes.
  • No thought bubble showing which direction the player should go.
  • No music is present.
  • The number of lives a player has is shown in the bottom right corner during the gameplay rather than in the pause menu.
  • Katy doesn't appear when the player wins a level.
  • The golden note has yet to be implemented.
  • Instead of getting an ending, the players gets a message saying "TEMPO TEST ENDING".

Aesthetic Differences

November 28, 1994 Prototype Final

Tempo has been re-drawn on the title screen to make him similar to the 32X version. Also, the logo was re-drawn, partly because of the name change.

The notes on the password screen were colored in.

The pause menu added a couple of extra statistics and got a new font for the final version.

Level Differences

  • The moths have a screwed-up palette in the dance club stage.
  • The first level's boss is different.
  • No collision on the spikes in part 2 of Level 4.
  • Some of the boss levels, including the final boss, are missing. The player instead plays a glitched version of the first boss's stage, with a sign saying "Now Making!"

The first bonus game has a completely disorganized layout, compared to the final version. It was probably re-organized in the final version to make it easier for younger children.

The second bonus game, Hit & Hit, is completely missing, although its graphics are present.
