This is a sub-page of Proto:Unreal Tournament (PC, 1999)/Version 222.

Assault Mission Briefs

Voice-overs explaining the goal of the map for the attackers can be found in AS-Oceanfloor and AS-HiSpeed. These sounds play once when someone walks over a trigger in the attacker's spawn area. The triggers can be hopped over with the Translocator, but the Translocator can only be brought into matches via cheating.

These voice-overs were completely removed from the final game.

AS-Hispeed

Alright people, our goal is to take control of this train.
Proceed as fast as possible to the front cabin, where you must toggle the operational switch on the main control.
Good luck!

Alternate AS-Hispeed Voice-Over

The files contain another version of the AS-Hispeed voice-over called "motiveTrain". This one has a slightly softer voice tone from the same voice actor and is worded differently.

Proceed as fast as possible to the front cabin where you must knock out the main control.

AS-Oceanfloor

Good evening, people!
Your mission tonight is to assault the underwater base located just below our sub.
To take control of the base, you must first find and disable its four computer terminals.
Good luck!

No Announcer

The announcer does not exist at all in this prototype. That's right; no announcer.

Introduction Voice-Overs

The prototype does not have the flythrough intro map that the final game does, but there are voice-overs for it. The text spoken is the same as it is in the final game, but the voices are completely different from the final version. The main announcer is a guy with a robot voice filter instead of a woman. The voice-over is broken up into seven voice files instead of being in a single one, like in the final game.

The package containing the intro narration also contains sounds for Xan and a miner talking (presumably at the point where Xan and the male Iron Guard guy in the intro would taunt each other in the mini-arena in the final game). Xan sounds like one of the developers trying to imitate a gruff drill sergeant instead of a robot, like he does in the final game.

Unused Voices

A package called “Malsvoices” contains voice clips that do not appear in the final game. All of them appear to be a British man saying various things. None of them appear to fit anywhere in either the prototype or the final game. A full breakdown of the voices can be seen below.

Sound Transcript
”BOO! Muwahaha!”
*whistling* “Over here!”
'”Sniper alert!”
”Tank sterilization in progress.”
”Teleportation door activated.”
”Please keep entrance tunnels clear at all time (sic).”
”I'm gonna whoop your ass!”

Female1Voice

Female2Voice voice pack uses Female2Voice's lines.

Female2 "I"m hit!" Sound

When Female2 says "I'm hit!" in v222, she says "I"m hit! I'm hit!" with the second "I'm hit" being softer than the first one. The second "I'm hit!" is absent in the final game.

Prototype Final

Tutorial Voice-Over

The tutorial voice-over does not have the echo effect she has in the final game.

Prototype Final

Assault Tutorial Difference

In v222, the voice-over in the Assault tutorial mentions that the timer is on the right, but in both v222 and the final game, the timer is on the left. This is a leftover from an earlier point in development.

DOM-MetalDream Sounds

The sound package containing sounds for the DOM-MetalDream level has a sound effect that is not played in the prototype nor final versions. It is the woman voice-over that's heard in the map saying “Intruder detected in main oil conduit”. There is nothing that looks like a “main oil conduit” in either the prototype nor final versions of the level, but according to its author, the map was planned to be an Assault map before being turned into a Domination map, so this could be a leftover of that original plan.

allhellvoice.wav

V222 contains an unused voiceclip for AS-Oceanfloor that talks about an excessive amount of pressure compromising the hull's (presumably, in the base) integrity. Based on its wording, it seems that it was meant to play after destroying the terminals in AS-Oceanfloor, but it never plays.

Male1 Voices in Female1 and Male2 Packages

For some reason, Male1's voice clips are in the Female1 and Male2 sound packages.

Hit While Underwater Sounds

Version 222 lacks sounds for when someone is hit while they're underwater.

Unused Woman Death Scream

This build has a death scream for the female models that isn't used in the final game. She sounds like a child in a movie throwing a temper tantrum. You can clearly hear some distortion from the microphone.
