Why would you protect the sandbox?

Because people couldn't resist creating accounts just to screw around with it and try to out-funny each other.

I agree that it's pointless, I'd suggest either deleting it outright, or redirecting it to Special:Mypage/Sandbox. — Vague / Rant 19:42, 7 March 2013 (EST)
The latter would be more optimal, with the additional requirement that it say "due to abuse, the global sandbox is unavailable and editors must use their own private sandboxes". - Andlabs 19:44, 7 March 2013 (EST)
