http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=snVqL7sWJuU - did this guy somehow trigger debug mode? ~y 05:27, 2 February 2012 (EST)

The guy is playing a pirate cart (title screen says (C) SUPER), which was probably hacked to add invincibility. I couldn't find any evidence of a debug mode in the official Super Contra ROM. --BMF54123 03:14, 3 February 2012 (EST)

Regarding the last sound test item being locked: The last item "MEDOLEY" is a medley that plays multiple bgm tracks. When you stop or start a track, it resets the medley/timer data. If the user were allowed to move the cursor freely to say, play a 1-up sound effect during the medley play it would reset the medley data and the current track of the medley would instead repeat forever. Locking the cursor was to prevent the medley from breaking, though there are better solutions, such as:

  • not allowing playing another sound during the medley
  • playing any sound (including sound effects) during medley first stops any bgm
  • differentiating between sound effects and bgm and only another bgm resets medley data

Presumably the cursor lock was the easiest solution for a non-essential part of the game. --SpiderDave (talk) 10:14, 3 January 2022 (UTC)
