Anti-Piracy

Like many later SNES games, Tetris Attack checks the amount of SRAM upon startup, and throws this anti-piracy screen and freezes if there is more than 8 kb.

Vaguely similar to EarthBound's anti-piracy screen, don't you think?

Regional differences

Many (not all) of the regional differences already have comparison shots taken, it's just that nothing's been written up for them. -N. Onymous 16:50, 4 November 2012 (EST)

About Elias's voice clip

GlitterBerri translated Elias's sound byte from when she scores a combo or chain as her grunting, but to me it always sounded more like "ええ!", Kansai-ben for "Yeah!". (There's the fact that she sounds more nasally than the other characters, for one thing...) I'll stick with Berri's translation for now, just to be on the safe side... Anyone else want to weigh in?

I heard it as een, but if you think it's ええ, go ahead and change it! Makes more sense in the context. Sorry for never answering this, I didn't see it. :) --GlitterBerri (talk) 03:47, 3 November 2013 (EST)

Unused menu

A screenshot of the unused menu.

So yeah, one day I started trying to see if there was some kind of debug menu inside this game by searching for cheats with ZSNES, and came across this very glitchy unused menu. It's very laggy when it's on-screen(and also makes the music restart constantly) so you can't do anything with it because the game runs too slow when the menu is open(though I'm not really sure if that's what's stopping you from using the menu).

So I was wondering if someone could do some research on it to make it usable.

The code I used to access it is 7E952A13("1PLAYER GAME" cursor position). Just enter the "1PLAYER GAME" menu with this code on, press 'A', and the menu should pop-up; good luck to anybody who's interested in research!

The only thing there that looks unused is the "1P VS. LEVEL ADJ." option, though I'm not terribly familiar with this game (I searched the options menu and couldn't find that setting anywhere). I tried the code you listed and it didn't do anything but freeze the game and cause the music to restart over and over again. --BMF54123 (talk) 22:36, 30 September 2014 (EDT)
Hmm, maybe it's a different version of the game causing the problem? (Or maybe a different emulator, doubt it though) I mean I am 100% sure this code works. The music also restarts a lot for me when I use it too so...hmm. Not sure what to do for you if it isn't working. But I am VERY sure this menu isn't anywhere in the game. The other chopped-up one in the screenshot below the level adjust menu, though, IS used. --HoleIn1Luigi (talk) 23:04, 30 September 2014 (EDT)
Tried it in the Japanese Panel De Pon quick-searching for that game's own menu modifiers and found nothing but crashes. If you can find a verifiable code please update. West (talk) 10:08, 1 October 2014 (EDT)
Okay so I just tested if the code works on another emulator besides ZSNES and found out that the menu DIDN'T show up. The emulator I used was Snes9X version 1.53.
I also tested it on Snes9X version 1.43, on that version, the menu DID show up. So I guess it DOESN'T work on some emulators. So maybe try it on ZSNES(preferably version 1.51) and see if it works. Also this time don't try it on Panel De Pon, try it on Tetris Attack. And if that doesn't work then...I really don't know. --HoleIn1Luigi (talk) 13:06, 1 October 2014 (EDT)
So I've verified that that menu does show up in both ZSNES (any version) and SNES9x v1.43 and earlier. Interestingly, on the frame before the menu shows up fully, this is shown:
"Puzzle Only"?
I don't remember that "Puzzle Only" graphic being used anywhere at all either. It's a shame everything in this game seems to be so heavily compressed... Ninetales (talk) 14:35, 1 October 2014 (EDT)
I'm gonna take a look at it when I get home from work, since that 1P VS. menu kinda got me in the mood to dig into SNES stuff again... --Devin (talk) 14:37, 1 October 2014 (EDT)
Awesome! Glad I was finally able to put this up there!
--HoleIn1Luigi (talk) 15:14, 1 October 2014 (EDT)
since it was mentioned on IRC already, the "puzzle only" graphic is from the "operation" screen with the controller, so it's not unused --01:04, 3 October 2014 (EDT)

here you go --Devin (talk) 23:59, 1 October 2014 (EDT)

Oh so NOW I understand what the menu is for! Awesome man! Nice work! --HoleIn1Luigi (talk) 01:11, 2 October 2014 (EDT)

Unused JP Menu Option

Technically this is a regional difference since this slot, clearly intended to be an Options menu, was used in Tetris Attack. West (talk) 15:34, 3 October 2014 (EDT)

Regional Protection

I recently tried to play Panel De Pon (Japanese Version) on a PAL console, and there was a regional protection screen. Similar to EarthBound with the red and blue screen. - Derpyunikitty 8:53 AM ET

Unused (?) Speech Bubble

PdP Lip overworld yychr.png PdP SpeechBubble1.png PdP SpeechBubble2.png

I was poking in the graphics for the game, and amidst the sprites for Lip and her rainbow I found this speech bubble graphic. It reads "LET'S GO!" in English and I don't remember ever encountering it in any version of the game I've played (jpn, fan-translated, Tetris Attack...). It can be arranged with or without the "tip" of the bubble, pointing to (presumably) Lip. --CebolaBros64 (talk) 18:03, 30 July 2020 (UTC)

Update: I originally found this using a tool that decompressed graphic data directly from Panel de Pon's ROM using hardcoded pointers, so I couldn't check Tetris Attack using the same method. Then I had the brilliant (read: obvious) idea of poking the game's VRAM in an emulator and I found out that it DOES actually get loaded into VRAM alongside everything else when you begin VS. Mode (where the overworld sprites are used).
TA Yoshi overworld vram.png
And then I was finally able to check for it in Tetris Attack... It's still there, somewhat; but most of it's tiles got overwritten by Yoshi's sprites. --CebolaBros64 (talk) 17:15, 13 August 2020 (UTC)
