So very stubbly.
This page is rather stubbly and could use some expansion.
Are you a bad enough dude to rescue this article?
Hmmm...
To do:
A lot to cover.

The Sims Life Stories is the first of the three spin-off Stories series. It is a cut-down, simplified version of The Sims 2, which includes elements of the first three expansions: University, Nightlife, and Open for Business. It was designed to run smoothly on laptops and portable devices. It also includes exclusive content, most notably a story mode. It revolves around taking control of two Sims (Riley and Vince), each with their own story, but naturally an open-ended sandbox mode is still included, just like other Sims titles.

Use SimPE: The simple DBPF-Package Editor and any text editor to research game files.

Locale/Korean/ui.package TSLF TS2FFSLeftover.png The Sims: Life Stories wasn't localized into Korean, so it uses the logo of The Sims 2: Family Fun Stuff as a placeholder in the locale folder.

Wall/Floor Textures

Hmmm...
To do:
Upload the wall and floor textures to this article.

There are wall and floor textures that are in the Textures.package file that go unused in both this game and its desktop counterpart (The Sims 2).

Unused Actions

Hmmm...
To do:
A lot of cover.

There are several removed interactions that exist within the file of the game. Some would be re-introduced in later expansions or games.

Ambulance

Hmmm...
To do:
Research more.

Like in The Sims 2, a game left a mention of the ability to call an ambulance, which was scrapped in The Sims 2. In the objects.package file, in the Behaviour function resource (BHAV), there is a BHAV CT - Call Ambulance.

The sfx1.package, which is located at the path "TSData\Res\Sound" contain five full unused music tracks. This tracks can be found by extracting the contents of this package using SimPE into a folder. The extracted package will consist of 4 folders and one file. The unused music tracks are located in "2026960B - mp3 or xa Sound File" folder. The files in the "2026960B - mp3 or xa Sound File" folder need to be sorted by file size from largest to smallest. The five larger files are these tracks. You can listen to these music tracks below:

Ownable cars from the base game The Sims 2

Hmmm...
To do:
Repeat the experiment and take screenshots of what was mentioned in the source.

The game also contains leftovers from the ownable cars that were supposed to be in the base game[5]. Here's what happens if you unlock the car and drive it using the available menu item on the car, Go Downtown[6]:

Sim gets in the car. The window for selecting which community lot to visit does not appear. Car drives away. The loading screen appears, which is similar to the loading screen when Sim visits the hospital from Chris Hatch's Hospital mod in The Sims 2.

Sim returns by car to the lot from which he left, to his residential lot. And then the differences begin to appear depending on who was driving.

If a teen was leaving, then:

  • The lot changes its type of lot, becomes a community lot.
  • If a teen is selected, a dialog box will appear when you exit the game with a warning about not being able to save in a community lot.
  • If a father is selected, the usual dialog box appears when you exit the game with the option to save the game in the residential lot.

If a father was leaving, then:

  • The lot remains residential lot.
  • If a father is selected, the usual dialog box appears when you exit the game with the option to save the game in the residential lot.

The experiment was conducted in a Margison family from Four Corners neighbourhood. There is no way in the game to add Downtown to the main neighborhood.

Mentions of families from the base game The Sims 2

Hmmm...
To do:
Research more.

In the objects.package of the game left Behaviour functions (BHAV), the names of which include mentions of the Capp and Monty families from Veronaville:

  • Sub - Is Lot a Capp Lot?
  • Sub - Object is Capp?
  • Sub - Is Lot a Monty Lot?
  • Sub - Object is Monty?

Internal Names

Inside the UIText contain names for University, Nightlife, Open For Business and Family Fun Stuff expansions. Oddly enough, in the English strings, The Sims 2 SP2 and The Sims 2 EP4 are mentioned, both of them which would be The Sims 2: Glamour Life Stuff and The Sims 2: Pets Expansion Pack.

Leftover Sims 2 action text

Since the game is a modified version of The Sims 2, there are leftover text strings calling up actions from the base game and expansions that are still in the game's code. However, the actions themselves have been deleted and the code to call them up branched over and commented out. Using SimPE, one can find the text in some of the game's packages.

Sims 2 Housekeeping Robot

Hmmm...
To do:
Merge this into leftovers models sub-page...

Another leftover is the housekeeping robot from the base game. The robot, however, is not functional and only its model data and texture files are left. Any actions it could perform in the base game, like the actions above, were deleted. In this case, the text also was deleted as well. All that can be used of the robot is placing its model on a lot, albeit unclickable.

Oddly, only the CleanBot is leftover.

Regional Differences

Some languages have the logo just fade in, rather than having a unique "The Sims" and "Life Stories" appearing even though the same sound effects are kept. Below is an example of the English and Japanese languages;
