It's not that tinypic is frowned upon in this establishment (though tinypic has a habit of recycling URLs for images that expire, resulting in an incident on the Jul forums where someone's screenshots became NSFW images one day), however we have ample hosting space to host any image here (and it's less prone to problems like what I just described). Please don't use nondescript filenames when uploading images, and be sure to tag your images appropriately. Also, I'd prefer you use a general-purpose image host (e.g. Photobucket) if you only plan to link your images on Jul. Images hosted on tcrf.net should only be used on wiki pages, especially until we get better hosting. --BMF54123 17:35, 16 August 2012 (EDT)

Millions of edits in a row

Hi. Listen, I figured I should point this out: try to ease up on the amount of times you save an article when you're working on it. It's worst for all of us if you save a page every minute. First off, the server receives constant save requests, which aren't too bad, but it's still unnecessary work. Then, you have to wait a dozen of seconds until you can continue where you left off. But the worst part comes when other editors wanna see the edits made. I, like many editors here, I bet, read the recent changes daily or every other day. It's a bit bad to come here and see an entire screen filled with edits on the same article by the same person (no, seriously!). From what I counted, since 10:22, August 31st to now, there have been 37 changes to the The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker/Unused Rooms page by you. I had to (well, I wanted to) check what the changes were, but I had to click on every one specifically. This was a real strain for me, and more so for the server, who had to receive 37 requests and send me 37 copies of a page with only some changes in between.

So, for future reference, try to only save when you've made a lot of big changes. If you're worried you could lose your progress due to a crash or something, don't worry too much; unless you're using Internet Explorer, your browser should save your changes every so often and be able to restore them upon a crash. But if you're still worried, save a backup unto a text file, and then submit the whole thing in one go. Or 2 or 3 separate edits, if you want.

Oh, and another note, there are some edits in which you remove text you yourself added, then re-add it again, then edit to fix some things. Try using the preview button to make sure you like the way your text looks, and make a thorough check on your whole text before you're done, so you don't have extra edits just to reword stuff.

Now again, I'm not trying to backseat moderate, nor am I mad by any means, but I'm just pointing out good etiquette. Keep up with the changes though, you're doing a good job. {EspyoT} 07:58, 1 September 2012 (EDT)

About Wind Waker

Using free camera on dolphin for the PAL version reveals the text is separate from that ending cutscene, so that's the reason of my edit. I am also interested in which tools do you use for cutscene viewing/model viewing and or editing, and a reliable bms editor for Gamecube games. It would be very kind, since I would like to fan-translate this game and other GC/Wii games in other european languages forgotten by Nintendo. PS: If you have dumped the text, could you check whether Wind Waker still has the furigana / hiragana options, like in DS and Zelda TP ? Montas1992 22:40, 20 November 2012 (EST)

I see. Interesting how they did that. TWW's ending is definitely rushed, considering the assets still included on the disc.

For cutscenes, I just take an archive ("Demo##"), unpack it, and look at the models with BMDViewer2. There isn't an editor that I know of though. Sorry.

Fan translations of the game would be interesting to see. In the past, I have added new text to the main file (without dumping the entire thing) by appending the new text to the end of the file with a hex editor and fixing the offset of the entry I want to replace. A similar method could be used for a fan translation; however, it could be very tedious to change all of the offsets manually.

Also, some of the text is hardcoded into the game's .blo files, which are the layouts for menus and the like. Changing those might be easy, but anything larger than the size of the original text might cause problems.

Speaking of the .blo files, I remember finding that all of the original Japanese name entry data ("Hirigana" and "Katakana" in Shift-JIS, as well as the individual kana characters) is still present. Could that be worth mentioning in the article?

If you'd like help with a fan translation, I might be able to offer some help; while I don't have any knowledge of languages other than English (and Spanish to a degree), I could give you a hand with the technical aspects.

Thanks a lot! I'm planning to do Twilight Princess, I need to modify the font too but I can't seem to find anything about Wii/GC graphic editing, other than tile editing tools, and I am a beginner who hasn't modified anything other than some NES games with uncompressed assets (but I should begin with the DS games to get more familiar with the bmg text format). I'll ask you for more specific advice on the Jul forum account.

Back on topic, it is unusual to find the "hiragana"/"katakana" text translated (even contracted professional translators should figure it out), and since it is in the Final Fantasy 4 GBA article, I added it to the Twilight Princess page. If you are familiar with the Japanese version, maybe could you add the furigana one too as unused in all regions, since I think was enable by default, thus rendering the option to toggle it unused even in the JPN version (not sure though)?

If you are interested in more unused Zelda text, you should however definitely check Four Sword Adventures text dumps. Preferably French/Spanish/German ones, since the unused text is left untranslated from English in plan sight. Hope that helped!Montas1992 23:34, 20 November 2012 (EST)

luigi's mansion viewer

I'll admit I'm not exactly good at stuff like this but wouldn't bmdview2 work for the game? If it dose not then searching "luigi's mansion viewer" brought up this site. Sorry if I could not be of much help. ~~ WLSI cactus 01.gifAK47Productions

The majority of character and item models in Luigi's Mansion are a format simply tagged as ".mdl". This format predates BMD, and isn't compatible. We'd need to write our own viewer to see these models... - Gamma 17:42, 23 January 2013 (EST)

Where is the bitten Poison Mushroom used in Luigi's Mansion?

The Poison Mushroom with a bite out of it is the regular model for the Poison Mushroom that appears in the game. It's just that it's so small that you usually can't see the bite. -Gamma (talk) 10:40, 20 December 2013 (EST)
