The best selling first person shooter video game series comes to a close in this installment, until the powers that be decide that it needs another sequel, though this time around Ramirez isn't around to block a nuke with his Riot Shield, no more tango suka, and the Spetznaz have gotten over their fear of the AC-130.

Contents

Cut Weapons

  • AT4 - The AT4 is a rocket launcher that was cut from the game. It was most likely used as a placeholder weapon in early builds of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3.First seen in an E3 gameplay video depicting the mission "Black Tuesday". The AT4's pickup icon and Create-a-Class image are left over in the game files.
  • M1014 - It appears that the M1014 was supposed to make an appearance in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, as the pickup icon and game files remain (unchanged from its Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 though). It was probably cut in the late stages of game development.

Unused Perks

One blatantly-unused perk image, and three possibly-unused perk images have been found in the game files. Let's take a gander, shall we?

  • Remote MG Turret - Shares similar visual styles with perk images in the first two "Modern Warfare" games. Possibly the Remote Sentry was going to be a perk may have been cut for unbalancing in Multiplayer.
  • Akimbo - Appears to be an early icon for the Akimbo perk also shares a similar design scheme to perk icons in Modern Warfare 2.
  • Tactical Insert - An early perk icon for the Tactical Insertion the perk icon also looks similar to perk icons in Modern Warfare 2.

Cut Weapon Camouflages

Apparently, Modern Warfare 3 was supposed to have more choices for weapon camouflage. 8 unused weapon camouflages have been found.

Unused ACR Camo

On an interesting note the ACR has an unused white camo. Either this camo was an early version of the Snow or Winter camo or this was suppose to be the cut Arctic camo.

The ACR's unused camo.

Cut Levels

  • Brooklyn: Map preview image appears to be a photoshopped image of part of the actual city of Brooklyn. Most likely replaced by the map "Downturn".
  • Coast: Map preview image is quite larger than the other map preview images. It appears to be an unfinished map, which explains why it never made it in. Bears a resemblance to the DLC map "Black Box".
  • Alps: Judging from the map name "Alps", one can only assume that this map would have taken place in the Alps.
  • Meteora: Appears to be a very unfinished map, small buildings in the preview image give the general idea that this map would have taken place in a cemetary, though the buildings in the background contradict that idea.
  • Rust: Most likely a remnant from Modern Warfare 2.
  • Crash: Most likely a remnant from Modern Warfare 2.
  • Crossfire: Most likely a remnant from Modern Warfare 2.
  • Highrise: Most likely a remnant from Modern Warfare 2.
  • Strike: Most likely a remnant from Modern Warfare 2.
  • Warlord: One of the more stranger cut level load screens. The load screen appears to be a screenshot of a busy market in a foreign city. The respective "map compass" file for this level, "compass_map_warlord.iwi", is actually the map compass for the Campaign mission "Back on the Grid". It would seem that the load screen image was most likely an early placeholder image.
  • Terminal: Most likely a remnant from Modern Warfare 2.

Cut Spec Ops Missions

  • defend_ferris: No official name for this mission is known at this time. Judging by the name, one can assume this mission would have had the player(s) defending a ferris wheel. Who would want to attack a ferris wheel?! There are two versions of this image present in the game files. One is named "so_defendferris_lobby.iwi", and the other is named "so_dlc1.iwi". The ferris wheel in the image is Pripyat's ferris wheel from Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare.
  • assaultmine: No official name for this mission is known at this time. Lobby image shares some similarities to the Spec Ops mission "Fire Mission".

Grinder

A cut gamemode. Not much is known about beside the fact that there would be a target area. Only sound files remain.

Yuri's No Russian model

During the flashback to "No Russian" Yuri has a unique third person model that can only be seen by cheats while other playable character's third person model's are usually from models in multiplayer and missing their heads while Yuri is complete but slightly discolored.

Version Differences

As with the rest of the Call of Duty series there were a number of differences when the game was ported to the Wii which include:

  • No killcams
  • Private match customization is more limited.
  • No downloadable content.
  • An "Ally Code" is needed to add friends.
  • No Special Ops missions.
  • The Recon Drone, Predator Missile, Reaper, and AC-130 killstreaks are not available.
  • The "Prologue" and "Blood Brothers" cutscenes are simply videos.
  • Gun Game, Infection, One in the Chamber, Team Juggernaut, and Drop Zone game modes are not available. (Though all but Infection are playable through modding.)
  • Winter and Marine Camouflage are awarded after prestiging once.
  • The L86 LSW, MK46, and PKP Pecheneg do not have golden camo.
  • Breakable glass windows only appear in the maps Carbon and Outpost.
  • The SitRep perk works differently. Instead of seeing fake Care Packages highlighted in red, a skull appears over them.
  • Some weapons have different reloading sounds.
  • You can't see Price's reflection against the broken glass in the "Dust to Dust" mission.
  • Sandman does not wear his sunglasses seen in the console versions.
  • Makarov has short hair.

Region Differences

The French edition of the game recycled the "Intel" text that appears during the loading of a multiplayer match from the two previous Modern Warfare games. However, this only appears in the Wii version.

Hmmm...
To do:

Currently being worked on by 404:

  • Info on unused weapons and weapons only found in single player that have create-a-class images for multiplayer
  • Upload & add images for unused weapons
  • Upload & add images for weapons that are unusable in multiplayer (aside from potentially using loadout mods for the PC version), but appear as usable weapons in Campaign missions.
  • Upload & add images of all the MW2 killstreak reward icons that appear in the games files (game devs probably forgot to remove them)
    • ^-- If any of you fellow editors thinks that adding these icons to the article is not necessary, then please let me know.
  • Upload & add images of "inactive" versions of 14 out of the 15 MW3 (non-"Pro") perk images (for some reason, the Overkill perk doesn't have an "_inactive.iwi" version like the other 14 perks do)
    • To my knowledge, these greyed-out versions of the non-"Pro" perk images are never used ingame in Multiplayer. If I am wrong and you know they are used ingame, please let me know via my talk page before I go and add them to this article.
