After the massive controversy about MK1's neutering at the hands of Nintendo's content guidelines, the go-ahead was given for more violent games to appear on Nintendo platforms. The Japanese version of MK2 is unique in that it features censorship. Blood is recolored green, and the game palette fades into grey-scale when a Fatality begins. It's not known whether this was done to appease Nintendo of Japan, or the Japanese ratings board CERO.
