Axlon was founded by Nolan Bushnell, Atari's founder, after he left the company. It initially focused on creating electronic toy animals, such as AG Bear, before being contracted by Atari to create some of the last offiical Atari 2600 games.

The company would later be absorbed into Hasbro. One of its employees would go on to co-found Digital Pictures.
