At some point in the late 1980s, Epic Records, the record company best known for signing Michael Jackson, decided to start publishing video games. They ended up becoming a frequent third-party publisher for Nintendo, acting as the Japanese wing for Sony's video game division. Eventually, Sony decided to start making their own video game hardware following disputes with Nintendo and Sega, at which point Epic went back to only being a record label.
