The first game designed by Luxoflux, Vigilante 8 was a video game series loosely based on the Interstate 76 series by Activision. The game is a vehicular combat game, similar to the likes of Twisted Metal or Carmageddon.

The first game had two groups of characters; the Vigilantes (good) and the Coyotes (evil). Depending which side you play as, you must protect or destroy certain environments in each level.

The game's sequel introduced several new gameplay elements, such as hovercrafts, skis, and propellers for your vehicle, more in-depth mission objectives such as collecting and delivering goods from one area of the level to another, and also adds a third group of characters known as the Drifters. The Drifters are basically characters with neutral alignments. Another mechanic is collecting tokens from other vehicles when you destroyed them, which would result in an upgraded vehicle.

The latest installment was Vigilante 8: Arcade for the XBox Live Arcade, which was a somewhat remake/re-imagining of the first game.
