Unfinished Paranoia Jazzy Groove
Like the first game in the series, the boss song in this game is also a medley. The first 30 seconds of this song is present in that medley, but the rest of it is never heard. The song changes style dramatically at the point where it is unused. It also cuts off suddenly after 57 seconds with spoken words that seem to say "sorry, not ready yet". It seems like a case of writer's block.
All playable songs have a short preview for the song select mode, even the boss songs. (A common pattern in rhythm games.) This unused song does have a preview, which indicates that it was originally intended to be a full stand-alone song at some point. The preview clip is taken from the unused portion, too! (The game's audio is encrypted on disc and decryption process used to produce this file fails on small inputs. As a result this file is slightly garbled. But you can still clearly hear what it was supposed to be.)
Missing Audio id 59
The encrypted mp3 data for this song was replaced with copies of Scale Check and no other traces of it remain. The gap in the songlist fits in between other Dancemania Happy Paradise licensed songs.
Unused Artist Credits
Located at C67B20 in GAME.DAT is a table of artist credits, in ASCII, which are displayed next to the songtitles during the song select mode. At C67D67 is the string "ZIPPERS" and at C67DA7 is the string "200-10". These are located between other used strings and so their song ids can be inferred. "ZIPPERS" belongs to song id 59 and "200-10" belongs to the unused copy of Paranoia Jazzy Groove. Therefore it's safe to assume that the cut song was Buffalo Bill (Momo Re-Edit) since almost every other song from Dancemania Happy Paradise appeared in the Dance Maniax series.
Strange Placeholders
The first one, no guess. The second one is the right size to fit in the space where the game's full motion videos are played. The first image might actually belong to DMX 1st, but was found on DMX 2nd.
Unused Split Difficulty Feature
In Dance Maniax 2nd Mix, it is not possible for two players to play simultaneously at different difficulty levels. In the previous game (and other DDR games of the time), this was possible. There exist separate graphics and palettes which indicate that this should be possible, but it's just not for some reason. Shown is an example of the extracted HUD graphics with their palettes set to 'mild' for P1 and 'wild' for P2.
