Gran Turismo 2/Regional Differences/Car Badging
This is a sub-page of Gran Turismo 2/Regional Differences.
In order to better reflect real-life branding and give a more realistic feel to the game, PD regionalized some of the cars seen in GT2's roster. Many Japanese cars suffered badging changes between releases, with the most significant changes seen below:
| Japan | North America | Europe |
|---|---|---|
| Daihatsu Mira | Daihatsu Mira | Daihatsu Cuore |
| Daihatsu Storia | Daihatsu Storia | Daihatsu Sirion |
| Mazda Familia | Mazda Protegé | Mazda 323 |
| Mazda Lantis | Mazda 323F | Mazda 323F |
| Mazda Roadster | Mazda MX-5 Miata | Mazda MX-5 |
| Mitsubishi GTO | Mitsubishi 3000GT | Mitsubishi 3000GT |
| Nissan 180SX/S14 Silvia | Nissan 240SX | Nissan 200SX |
| Nissan Fairlady Z | Nissan 300ZX | Nissan 300ZX |
| Nissan Fairlady 240Z | Nissan Datsun 240Z | Nissan Datsun 240Z |
| Nissan March | Nissan March | Nissan Micra |
| Nissan Primera | Nissan Infiniti G20 ¹ | Nissan Primera |
| Nissan Pulsar GTi-R | Nissan GTi-R | Nissan Sunny |
| Nissan Pulsar VZ-R | Nissan Pulsar VZ-R | Nissan Almera |
| Subaru Alcyone SVX | Subaru SVX | Subaru SVX |
| Toyota Aristo S300 | Lexus GS 300 | Lexus GS 300 |
| Toyota Altezza AS200 | Lexus IS | Lexus IS |
| Toyota Altezza LM Edition | Toyota Altezza LM Edition | Toyota IS 200 LM Edition |
| Toyota Soarer 3.0 GT | Lexus SC 300 | Lexus SC 300 |
| Toyota Vitz | Toyota Vitz ² | Toyota Yaris |
¹ The Primera Wagon retains its original name in the US versions.
² The Vitz car description labels it as the Toyota Echo, also briefly mentioning its foreign names.
Another badging change considered but not effectively applied to the game was that of the Renault Clio, marketed in Japan as the Renault Lutecia due to Honda retaining the rights to the name Clio in the country since the establishment of their 'Honda Clio' sales distribution channel. A Lutecia logo is briefly seen in the Japanese intro, but the vehicle is still labeled Clio in-game.
Car Logos
Cars in GT2 may have up to six logo files to be used by the three regional versions of the game. These files are stored in the carlogo directory of GT2.VOL. JP builds look for files that end with l-- (used in GT Mode's garage and dealership screens) and m-- (seen in Arcade Mode's Home/Guest Garage selection screen), while US versions look for n-- and o-- instead. Finally, the sole EU version looks for p-- and q--. If a file with the desired suffix is not found, the game falls back to the previous variant and, if no file is found at all for a certain model, the lowest model name in the directory is used: a-a7r.
Many cars, mostly from the big six Japanese manufacturers, feature different logo art, usually for branding reasons. The following is a comparison of every model with significant art and text differences in its carlogo files.
