This is a sub-page of Gran Turismo 4.

The Mazda MX-5 Edition demo of Gran Turismo 4 was given as a prize in the Mazda Zoom-Zoom Live event held in 2005. This demo, unlike every other Gran Turismo 4 demo before it, is built off the final game and was built around a month after the US build date, with GT4.VOL reporting a build date of February 21st, 2005. Unlike any other Gran Turismo demo before it, the game's settings are fully adjustable, just as they are in the final game, to the extent that you can run the game in 480p or 1080i display modes. Photo Mode is also fully available.

You are given the choice to either drive in a single opponent race or in a time trial on Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca, Tsukuba Circuit or Côte d'Azur in a 2005 Mazda MX-5 (NC generation), which was a brand new model at the time, although it is possible the car featured in-game is a pre-production or auto show presentation model as it is marked as a concept car. As in the final game, you can race in either mode in A-spec or B-spec modes and unlike any other Gran Turismo demo, there is no default time limit.

Unused Content

Many of unrelated content are removed in this build, with major exception of the Grand Canyon track; however the 2005 MX-5 was coded to not have support for dirt or snow tires, so additional hacking is required to have the car race there. In addition to Grand Canyon, there are seven unused cars (all of them are Mazda cars) in this build:

  • Mazda MX-5 Miata 1800 RS (NB, J) '00
  • Mazda 110S (L10B) '68
  • Mazda6 5-door '03
  • Mazdaspeed 6 '05
  • Mazda DEMIO SPORT '03
  • Mazda RX-8 Type S (J) '03
  • Mazda RX-7 Spirit R Type A (FD) '02

There also appear to be data for bodies of European counterparts of Mazda MX-5 Miata 1800 RS (NB, J) '00 and Mazda DEMIO SPORT '03.
