Also known as: PercussionFreaks 7thMIX (drummania, AS)
|
GuitarFreaks 8thMIX & drummania 7thMIX did a major facelift in the game's interface, doing changes such as giving individual ratings to Bass charts and making modifiers easier to access.

Sub-Page
| Power-Up Version There's never too many difficulty rating tweaks. |
Unused Graphics
NOTE: Graphics that are unused in the original release, but used in the Power-Up Version do not have images here.
Folder DATA6 contains the game's graphical assets. However, several sprites, and even files are left unused, sometimes leftovers from previous games in the series.
Hit Chart Screen Leftover
MRANKING.FCN contains the files for GuitarFreaks 7thMIX & drummania 6thMIX's hit chart screen, along with a few server-related messages.
Songlist Screen
File M_IMAGE.FCN, the directory file for the songs' banners and songlist items, contains several unused graphics relating to several scrapped songs/revivals. Additionally, there's also songlist items for the six songs introduced in the Power-Up Version.
Song Titles
Many of the "BG" files, in which are stored the background animation sprites for the songs, have a graphic file displaying the song's title, in the horrid color combination of blue background and red text. They are leftovers from GuitarFreaks 7thMIX & drummania 6thMIX.

Results Screen
Clearly placeholder banners, featuring a smiley face and the text "TARGET" written on them, are found in RESULT.FCN. They come in seven variants. Additionally, the first two are seen in other files as well, such as SELECT.FCN.
Other
This dead fish is seen many times, in many files in the game's data.
Unused Song
| To do: Convert the chart data then delete this mess of audio files. |
Complete data for the song Save A Little Something, which wouldn't appear until GuitarFreaks 10thMIX & drummania 9thMIX, can be found in the game's files, which include music tracks, keysounds, and charts (in drummania 7thMIX, the chart data is complete, but in GuitarFreaks 8thMIX, only Basic Guitar and Bass charts exist). In the case of the Guitar charts, while the notes are placed accordingly, the charts only consist of red notes and measure markers, effectively making them placeholders. The preview file is also different between releases; I0714GF.DAT in the GuitarFreaks 8thMIX data is of the actual song, while I0714DM.DAT in the drummania 7thMIX data is of Natsuiro, a song absent from this release.

Guitar Keysound Data
Unused Music
Folder DATA0/STATIC contains the game's system BGM. However, two tunes are not heard:
GF5dm4 Opening
File OPENING.DAT is the opening theme for GuitarFreaks 5thMIX & drummania 4thMIX.
Game Over
File OVER.DAT is a short tune likely meant to be used in a Game Over sequence of sorts.
Unused Audio
| To do: Verify some more other sounds. |
Unused audio files for the game's announcer can be found in GAME.DAT. It is entirely possible that the announcer was planned to be more "prominent" in the game's screens, much like the first four GuitarFreaks games.
| Audio | Transcription | Description |
|---|---|---|
| "Mode Select" | Alternate takes for entering the mode selection screen. | |
| "Select Mode" | ||
| "Playstyle Menu" | A sound for entering the Settings menu, before the mode selection screen. The announcer is silent when the screen is entered, however. | |
| "How To Play" | A sound for entering the How To Play sequence during the attract mode. The announcer is silent when the screen is entered, however. | |
| "Music Select" | Alternate takes for entering the music selection screen. | |
| "Select a music" | ||
| "First Stage" | Sounds that supposedly were to be played before the song started. However, only the Extra and Encore stages are announced. | |
| "Second Stage" | ||
| "Third Stage" | ||
| "Fourth Stage" | ||
| "Fifth Stage" | ||
| "Congratulations!" | It is likely that this would be played in the Ending sequence. However, the announcer is silent. | |
| "Are you ready?" | Could have been possibly used before the song started (like in the early GuitarFreaks titles)? | |
| "This one's easy!" | Likely meant to be used in Nyuumon/Lesson mode? | |
| "Amazing play!" | Assorted praising sounds. Likely meant to be used in Nyuumon/Lesson mode? | |
| "Gnarly, dude!" | ||
| "Great job!" | ||
| "Incredible!" | ||
| "Super duper!" | ||
| "Very clever!" | ||
| "Way to go!" | ||
| "Wow, man, that was cool!" | ||
| "You're fantastic!" | ||
| "Beginner" | A leftover from the previous announcer. |
Burn Date
The title of Percussion Freaks 7thMIX's ISO image contains a date, which is not seen in any of the japanese releases:
VOL_20020820103537
Regional Differences
drummania 7thMIX was released in Asia under the title of PercussionFreaks 7thMIX. The only major difference is that many of the songs' titles and artists were translated/romanized to English, and, in one case, Traditional Chinese. Curiously, some of these translated banners are based on earlier variants.
