CHEAT Menus

Hp2-cheat-main.png

Set $FFD0 to one of the following values at runtime (e.g. using VBA's memory viewer), or enter GameShark code 01xxD0FF, where xx is one of the below values. Note that the code must be disabled once inside any of the menus in order for them to function properly:

  • 54 - CHEAT menu (pressing B here leads to the start menu) - functions as a gateway to:
  • 55 - Map Cheat.
  • 56 - Quest Cheat.
  • 57 - Sound Cheat.
  • 58 - Spells Cheat.
  • 59 - Money Cheat (Gives 50,000 Sickles).
  • 5A - Portrait/Text Cheat.
  • 5B - Bruti Cheat.
  • 5C - Card/Combo Cheat (Gives all combos and two of each card).
  • 5D - Item Cheat (Gives 99 of all inventory items).
  • 5E - Minigames Cheat.
  • 5F - Robe Cheat (doesn't really work from the title screen).
  • 60 - Party Cheat (Harry only / Harry+Ron+Hermi).
  • 61 - Experience Cheat.
  • 39 - Unused "Ron gives you a new card combo!" screen.
  • 3A - Potion checklist screen.

NOTE 1: The Spells, Money, Bruti, Card Combo, Item, Minigames and Experience Cheat menus have NO MENU. Their effects are immediate upon selection.

NOTE 2: The Portrait/Text cheat seems to be removed from the game. In the English US/UK version, it's misspelled as Potrait/Text. The French localization has it labeled as No need to translate as per and the Dutch localization has it labeled as NOT USED. All other languages have the properly translated name.

Unused Items

Hp2-unused-hats.PNG

Four unused hats. The Tom'O-Shanter and Chapeau can be used by all characters, but the Head Band can only be worn by Ron and the Witch's Hat is for Hermione.

Hp2-unused-garments.PNG

Three unused garments. The Satin Gown is exclusive for Hermione and is just as strong as the Quidditch Jersey for Harry and Ron.

Hp2-unused-charms1.PNG Hp2-unused-charms2.PNG

Eight unused charms. The Knee Pads and Wrist Guards are exclusive for Ron, while the Ankle Bracelet and Hair Bow are exclusive for Hermione.

Hp2-unused-gloves1.PNG Hp2-unused-gloves2.PNG

Five unused gloves. Mittens and Opera Gloves are for Hermione, Wool Gloves are for Ron.

Hp2-unused-belts1.PNG Hp2-unused-belts2.PNG Hp2-unused-belts3.PNG

Ten unused belts. The Toolbelt is only for Ron and the Girdle is only for Hermione.

Hp2-unused-shoes1.PNG Hp2-unused-shoes2.PNG

Six unused boots. The Saddle shoes and Slippers can only be worn by Hermione, while Harry can only wear Brogans and Ron only Galoshes.

CoS-Unused-01.png

The Lockhart Card was the early version of the Lockhart portrait. Sickles are never an item. Healing Sparkle is a graphic used for when the healer in Diagon Alley or when Madam Pomfrey heals Harry. It is never used as an item. The Sickles and Healing Sparkle items return from Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, with updated graphics.

CoS-Unused-02.png

Binns' Books is an early version of Hogwarts: A History. Kwikspell Letter is an early version of Kwikspell Book.

CoS-Unused-03.png

Fawkes, Diary in a Sock and Gryffindor's Sword are never inventory items. Moste Potente Potions is acquired in-game, but Hermione immediately takes it. The icon is never seen and it is never in the inventory.

CoS-Unused-04.png

Heavy Iron Chains is an early version of Ghoul Chains. Baseball Card is an early version of Football Card.

CoS-Unused-05.png

Floo Powder is used in a cutscene, so it never remains in the inventory. Bludger, Poppers and Ghost Head are never used in the game. They were probably meant for various side quests related to Quidditch, Christmas and Nick's Deathday Party respectively. Poppers appear in Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone as "Holiday Popper".

CoS-Unused-06.png

According to the books, Harry and Ron are awarded with the "Special Award For Services" for defeating Tom Riddle in the Chamber of Secrets. This item never appeared in the game. The Daily Prophet is referenced when Draco talks about Arthur Weasley's fine. The icon is never seen, and it is never an inventory item. Harry receives his valentine from Ginny verbally, so a physical valentine item was not needed. Wizard cards were items in Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone. In this game, they automatically go into the Folio Magi when you purchase them.

CoS-Unused-07.png

Unsure of why the Sorting Hat and Scabbers are items. Probably more cut sidequest items. Nimbus 2000 and Snake Fang are items left over from Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone. The Nimbus 2000's icon is updated from the original in Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone.

CoS-Unused-08.png

The portrait checklist went unused. It was going to be used for a planned sidequest that got cut. The Wizard Card Checklist is another that was unused. This list is intact, and can be seen in the next section.

Unused Enemies

Elementary, my dear Cactus.
This needs some investigation.
Discuss ideas and findings on the talk page.
Specifically: Are there any unused encounter tables assigned to any locations where Magical Encounters never occur? Are any of these 3 monsters included in any such unused encounter tables?

Harry-Potter-2-GBC-Unused-Enemies.png Harry-Potter-2-GBC-Unused-Emerald-Firecrab-Folio-Bruti.png Harry-Potter-2-GBC-Unused-Doxy-Queen-Folio-Bruti.png Harry-Potter-2-GBC-Unused-Dark-Goblin-Folio-Bruti.png

There are three unused (and infamous!) monsters in the game's data: The Doxy Queen, Emerald Firecrab, and Dark Goblin. They each have an entry in the Folio Bruti, but due to a programming oversight, they were either excluded from any encounter table, or included in an unused encounter table at a location where no Magical Encounters ever occur, which unfortunately makes the game impossible to complete 100% without cheat devices.

The following GameShark codes will change any three enemies in a magical encounter into the three unused enemies:

Encounter Emerald Firecrab (Top):

954E4BD0

Encounter Doxy Queen (Center):

954A64D0

Encounter Dark Goblin (Bottom):

95547DD0

To make these work, enable a code DURING a magical encounter, select "Folio Bruti", then go back. There must already be an enemy present in a slot for it to work. They already work when you enable them, but you must go to the "Folio Bruti" and then exit to change their appearance. Do not use these outside of a magical encounter!

Alternatively, you can use the Bruti Cheat from the Cheat Menu to unlock ALL monsters, including the unused three.

Unused Graphics

Wizard Card Checklist

CoS-Unused-Wizard-Card-Screen.png

A list of Wizard Cards to collect. Unused from a cut sidequest.

Quest Complete Portraits

Harry-Potter-2-GBC-Unused-Quest-Portraits.png

Six unused portraits for the Quest Complete screen. The final game uses a portrait of Harry in normal clothes for the first quest and Harry in robes standing normally for the rest.

Map Screen Icons

Chamber-of-Secrets-Map-Viewer-Icons.png

The map menu screen consists of the entire left side of this image, including the first row of floor markers. These markers are cut off on the right side. The second row is an alternate take, where the right side of each icon is completed. The third row consisting of yellow icons suggests a marking system, used to show what floor the player is on. The footer text underneath makes the markers redundant. The last two rows are used in the French localization.

"Throw the Gnome" Meter Icon

Harry-Potter-2-GBC-Unused-Meter-Icon.png

This small "m" icon goes unused. This is how it would appear in-game. In the final version, the only icon next to the top score is a small Harry or Ron head, depending on who's currently in first place.

Unused Messages

NOTE: When a message references @1 Sickles/Magic Points/Stamina Points, @1 is a variable amount stored in a different location.

Miscellanous

Minigames

  • A set of staff high scores for a minigame. In the final game, no preset high scores exist. These high scores act as placeholders for where high scores appear on-screen. They seem to be set by programmer Steve Vallée, lead programmer Michael Dorgan and executive producer Steve Ettinger.

  • Placeholder text for locked minigames. In the final game, it just says "Locked".

Unknown game ...

Folios

  • It is impossible to have the Folio Magi without cards. This message is never seen.

You have no cards to display.

  • There is no prompt to use a card attack combo in the final game.

Execute this card attack.

Magical Encounters

  • Harry always has his wand with three spells preloaded when the game starts.

You haven't learned any spells yet!

  • Spells that cannot be cast are shaded out and cannot be selected. Therefore, this message is unseen.

You don't have enough Spell Points to cast this spell!

Shops

  • Placeholder text for a vendor in the game. It is unclear exactly which vendor this was for. It could have been used for many.

GO AWAY!! I don't have anything to sell, and nobody has written any dialog for me.

  • Full dialog for a Flourish and Blotts shop screen.

Flourish and Blotts

Welcome to Flourish and Blotts.

We're always looking for good used merchandise

What would you like?

A rousing choice. Anything else?

A pity. Anything else?

Those books sell for @1 Sc.

Since it's used, I'll give you @1 Sc.

Do we have a deal?

You don't have that many Sickles.

  • Full dialog for a Knockturn Alley Shop. It was cut before even being named.

A Knockturn Alley Shop

Welcome.

Something to sell? Let's have a look.

Come, see my wonderful curiosities.

A curious choice. Anything else?

That's a shame. Anything else?

That'll cost you @1 Sc.

I suppose I could give you @1 Sc.

Are you satisfied with your choice?

I think that's more than you have, isn't it? Anything else?

Hogwarts

  • An unused line from the statues in the Portrait Room.

The bad thing about being a statue is once you choose a hairstyle, you're stuck with it.

Sidequest Related Messages

Quest Titles

A set of quest titles from early in development. Paper Chase does not identify with anything in the final game or any unused items. The Magical Menagerie is the name of the shop where 5 purple toads have escaped. Perhaps this store was meant to play a role in the Trade Sequence. Banging Ghoul, Kwikspell and Autographed Lockhart Card are all early versions of quests used in the final game. Portrait Scavenger Hunt was an unused quest where Harry was intended to talk to portraits throughout the school.

Banging Ghoul

Kwikspell

Autographed Lockhart Card

Portrait Scavenger Hunt

Quikspell

  • Filch has some unused dialogue. These lines are a bit nice, considering it's Filch.

Why are you still lurking about?

If I tell the Headmaster that you've been in here, he'll have you expelled!

I've already given you my best gloves. Now leave me in peace!

The Burrow

  • A message from Percy regarding his "Preferred Preface for Perfect Prefects" book.

Well, I suppose that's all the reading I'm going to do tonight. 'Night, Harry.

  • A small conversation probably cut due to "violence".

Molly Weasley

Arthur! How many times have I told you, no enchanted power tools in the bedroom!

Arthur Weasley

Sorry, dear. And sorry to you, too, Harry. Hope it didn't take too big a chunk out of you.

Molly Weasley

Run along to bed, Harry, while SOMEbody cleans up this mess.

  • Early versions of secondary Weasley messages in each bedroom.

Percy Weasley

Early Final
A prefect needs his sleep so he may remain alert. Good night. You really should get some sleep, Harry.

Ginny Weasley

Early Final
I'm so excited, but I still have to try to sleep. Good night. I'll see you in the morning, Harry. Good night.

Arthur Weasley

Early Final
Off to the land of slumber. Good night! It's getting late, Harry, off to bed with you now. Ron's room is just upstairs.

Molly Weasley

Early Final
Good night, dear. No more of this nonsense, Harry. Go upstairs to bed immediately!

Fred Weasley

Early Final
Good night, George. Good night, Harry. I can't believe that you're not sleepy, Harry. I know I am.

George Weasley

Early Final
Good night, Fred. Good night, Harry. I can't believe that you're not sleepy, Harry. I know I am.

Ron Weasley

Early Final
I'm off to bed, Harry. See you in the morning. Well it's certainly been a long day, Harry. I'll see you in the morning, good night.

Gringotts Bank

  • Some lines intended for Griphook in the Gringotts dungeons.

Do hurry. The vault guardians will be wanting lunch soon.

  • Griphook was originally going to wait for you to return to the entrance of the dungeons.

About time! Climb aboard and we'll return to the lobby.

Diagon Alley

Around Diagon Alley

A ton of various lines for wandering NPCs.

Check out the new shops, Harry!

Plenty of new things to see and do in Diagon Alley, Harry!

I think you'll like all the changes in Diagon Alley, Harry!

Something special is happening at Flourish and Blotts!

There's a huge crowd at Flourish and Blotts!

I was going to browse for books, but Flourish and Blotts is too crowded.

Why is everyone going to Flourish and Blotts?

Someone is signing books at Flourish and Blotts.

Reading gives me a headache, but I'm still going to Flourish and Blotts book shop!

There's supposed to be someone very famous at Flourish and Blotts.

Quality Quidditch Supplies

Two lines cut from when Harry gets the Football card from Ron. The first line reveals that the person who runs the Card collectors club is named Derek.

A football card! This is what Derek was talking about... I wonder if he would trade this for a Famous Witches and Wizards Card.

I wonder if the card collector's club would know anything about this.

Outside Flourish and Blotts

Some unused lines from wandering NPCs.

I heard that Gilderoy Lockhart is signing books here today. What an exciting opportunity, why don't you go get his autograph?

What a brilliant author. He is marvellous!

Do you think he would autograph a photo for me?

Now what is that wife of mine going on about? Something about that chap Lockhart giving a book signing today? Oh, scoff.

Flourish and Blotts

  • Ginny is in more of a rush in the final version.
Early Final
Hi Harry. I think everybody else has already bought their school books, so let Dad know when you're ready to leave for the station. We'd better get to the station right now! I don't want to be late on my first day!
  • A line intended for either Arthur or Molly Weasley.

There are a few books that I'd like to find before we take you to the station, Harry. Why don't you have a look around the shop for a while?

King's Cross Station

Various Hogwarts students were meant to be scattered throughout the station. Instead, there are only a few muggle NPCs. This might explain why the station feels a bit bare.

Hurry, Harry! The Hogwarts Express always leaves on time!

The Hogwarts Express doesn't wait for anyone... not even you, Harry!

Hurry, hurry, get to the train!

No time to lose, Harry. You have to be on that train!

The train will be out the station if you don't hurry, Harry!

No time for chit-chat, Harry! Get to the train station!

Don't waste time here! Get to Platform 9 3/4!

You don't want to miss the train, do you?

The Flying Anglia

There's a bunch of text leading up to the crash of the car. It could have been used in a cutscene that was later replaced with the Flying Anglia minigame.

Alternately, this text could have been used during the minigame. This tactic is seen in the first Quidditch match, where Harry screams "Arrggghhh...." before falling off his broom. When text appears in a minigame, it pauses the minigame until the text disappears. Considering how many lines are here, it could have been cut because it disrupts the gameplay.

It can't be far now.

I think I can see Hogwarts over there!

I don't know much about cars that fly, but that didn't sound good.

It's probably just tired. It's never been this far.

And it's not going any further!

Noooooo!

Look out for that tree!

Finding Gryffindor House

  • Some comments from students relating to the crash.

Trade in your brooms for a car? You might as well. You'll see why.

Why didn't you use your brooms instead?

  • Various comments from students.

Looking forward to your exploits on the Quidditch Pitch again, Harry!

Gryffindor is still on the top floor, isn't it?

The Sorting Hat smudged my glasses.

Everyone seems lost. I fit right in.

  • Some messages intended for Filch after the car crash.

Stop dawdling and get to your dormitory!

Tire tracks in the lawn... irate foliage... they should make you clean up your mess, not me!

Herbology

Going to Class

Various comments from students.

I think Herbology is great because I have a green thumb.

Do we need safety goggles for Herbology class?

In Class

  • Professor Sprout telling Harry to move along. The final version tells the player where to go next.
Early Final
Please be on your way, Harry. I must prepare for the next class. Thanks again for your help with the Mandrakes, Harry. You'd better be off to Defence Against Dark Arts class now, don't be late.
  • A line intended for Harry right after the final message above.

I can't blame them for escaping, but I hope they don't do it again.

Quidditch Practice #1

  • Various comments from students.

Quidditch gives me an appetite. I suppose playing it does, too.

Quidditch is so exciting it makes my glasses fog up.

The Quidditch boys look so handsome in their uniforms.

The Gryffindor Quidditch team should make it a clean sweep this year.

Curing Ron's Curse

  • Hagrid was initially supposed to give Harry the Folio Bruti and Informous Spell. This is a little late in the game to receive them, so they were given at a much earlier point.

Hagrid:

Best fetch those ingredients, Harry, Ron's looking mos' unhappy

Ron:

Yuck, how am I going to get the slug taste out of my mouth?

Hagrid:

See you soon, Harry. Hope no 'uns throwin' up garden pests next time.

Hagrid:

One more thing, Harry... in my garden, yeh might run in ter some strange creatures. Yeh can find out stuff about 'em, if yeh use the Informous spell. An' here's a special book to help yeh remember the stuff what the spell finds out.

Harry:

Thank you! I can't wait to use it!

  • A line of dialogue changed with the removal of the Bruti texts.
Early Final
Harry, take the list I gave yeh, and gather all the ingredients. They're in my garden, just outside the hut. Yeh can find all the ingredients in my garden, just outside my hut.

Going to Detention

  • The quest says "Return to Gryffindor Common Room". It's possible that a note was meant to be there waiting for Harry and Ron. This would have been cut because of its redundancy.

What's this?

It's from Professor McGonagall. It says to report immediately for detention with...Professor Lockhart! Oh, no.

  • Students being envious of Harry's detention.

I heard you have detention with Professor Lockhart.

I'd rather have detention with Lockhart than play Quidditch!

You have detention with Lockhart? Lucky!

You have detention with Professor Lockhart? I must think of a way to misbehave.

Quidditch Practice #2

  • Yet another line that sounds like it could have been used during the minigame.

Up and at 'em, Potter, up and at 'em!

Nick's Deathday Party

  • Small conversation between Ron and Harry about food.

Ron:

That's where I draw the line.

Harry:

I wonder how headless people eat? Swallowing would seem out of the question.

  • Could've been used for a ghost.

Too bad the Slytherins aren't as quiet as their house ghost.

  • Sir Patrick has a post-bowling chat with Harry, Ron and Hermione.

Good bowling! Best use my head has been put to in ages!

All that bowling makes me hungry!

I would have played, but it's so hard to find grey bowling shoes.

  • The group deciding to leave.

Ready to leave yet?

Yes!

This party is dead. Literally.

  • The final conversation with Nick had a few lines cut.
  • Here's the full set of dialogue from the final game. The lines that were removed have been bolded.

Leaving so soon?

Yes...have to get up early, you know.

Goodbye, then. I'll let you know if Sir Patrick changes his mind about the Headless Hunt.

Lots of studying to do.

My owl needs fluffing.

Ah, yes, the duties of the scholar. I hope you had a good time. Want to take some tasty morsels with you for a late night snack?

No! I mean, no thank you, couldn't eat another be.

Probably couldn't have swallowed the first one.

Investigating the Writing on the Wall

Messages removed from the final game. The first one is intended for Neville Longbottom.

I hope my toad Trevor doesn't get Petrified, too.

I'm afraid to walk around by myself anymore

I walk around without my glasses so if I see something horrible, it'll be blurry.

Befriending Moaning Myrtle

  • This line is a reply for When Harry gives Myrtle the Lily. It was changed so that she teaches Harry the Mucas Ad Naseum spell.
Early Final
I suppose...thank you. It's a lily... my favourite. That was very nice of you, Harry. Here, I'll teach you my favourite spell.
  • Some unused lines, probably intended for Ron and Hermione respectively.

Even the old abandoned girls' bathrooms are nicer than the boys' bathrooms.

There's someone in here you should meet, Harry.

Quidditch Match #1

  • A revised version of this line. It reminds the player to go to the Quidditch match.
Early Final
Hmm, Hermione and Ron must have locked the door behind them to keep people out while they study the potion book. Ron and Hermione must be in there studying the book. I'd better get to the Quidditch game!
  • A line to be used during the minigame when Harry catches the Golden Snitch. Was likely cut because it interrupted gameplay.

Got it!

Potions Class

Some lines from students on the way to Potions Class.

I bet Snape's class is in the dungeon because he enjoys the cold and dank.

I would like Potions class a lot more if it wasn't taught by Professor Snape.

The Duelling Club

A single unused line from a student.

I should really have my duelling glasses on before I Wizard Duel.

Duel with Crabbe & Goyle

  • Another line from a student regarding glasses.

Crabbe and Goyle are in the Entrance Hall. I'm staying up here so they won't break my glasses again.

  • A little before the Crabbe & Goyle text, there are two instances of this string. They are placeholders for text related to a search quest. At this point, it's Christmas time in-game. Therefore, it's very likely that Harry and Ron were meant to look for the "Poppers" item before meeting with Crabbe & Goyle.

search dialogs

  • A line intended for Harry. This is right before they speak to Crabbe & Goyle.

There they are. We'd better go up to them together.

  • Some lines from when Harry and Ron hide Crabbe & Goyle's bodies.

I'll get the hair.

I'd really like to wash this before we drink it.

  • This line was intended to start the conversation with Hermione.

Here are the bits of Crabbe and Goyle.

Meeting Draco in Slytherin Common Room

Some lines from students around the school, as Harry and Ron appear to be Crabbe & Goyle. The last line is yet another reference to glasses.

I'll have those sickles you wanted tomorrow, I swear!

Could you punch me in the arm this time instead of the nose?

Leave me alone!

Please don't break my glasses, I have to study.

Meeting Hermione after the Transformation

  • A line regarding how the team has made no progress for today. This line becomes irrelevant when they find Tom Riddle's diary.

...So we can start all over tomorrow!

Valentine's Day

A line from a student.

That was a very sweet poem, Harry. I hope someone sends me a card-carrying Cupid!

Visions of the Past

When Tom Riddle is showing Harry some things in the past, two lines would have been used for a transition between scenes.

Follow me, Harry.

All right, I'm coming.

The Forbidden Forest

A few lines from Harry and Ron.

I can't get free...where are they taking us?

I've got a bad feeling about this forest. Let's be careful...

Aftermath

There is an early version of the final conversation. Most of it was just reworded in the final game. In the final version of the game, Lockhart leaves much earlier. Also, in the early version Dumbledore is left with Harry and Ron. In the final, it's just Harry. This explains why Dumbledore says "You'll be given Special Awards for Service to Hogwarts", instead of "You'll be given a Special Award for Service to Hogwarts".

Early Final
Professor Dumbledore!
Mum and dad!
Ginny!
Any idea who I am?
Thank goodness you're safe! But what happened?
It started when Ginny wrote in this diary. It belonged to Tom Riddle, who became Voldemort. He took control of her.
I wrote to him all year, and he wrote back!
I've told you never to trust anything that can think when you can't see where it keeps its brain.
Ginny should be checked out in the hospital wing. She won't be punished, she was being controlled.
Thank you, headmaster!
Professor Lockhart should go, too. He's lost his memory.
Have I? I'd quite forgotten.
Would you please escort Professor Lockhart to the hospital wing, Minerva?
Certainly. I'll leave you to deal with Weasley and Potter.
Mum and Dad!

Ginny!

The rest of you had better go with her. Harry, you stay behind, I want to have a word with you.

Your curse is gone!

Brand new card combination, Harry. I hope it's a good one.

Just in time for the new card combination, Harry. Hope it's one you can use.
