Mabinogi/Unused Graphics
This is a sub-page of Mabinogi.
This page is rather stubbly and could use some expansion. Are you a bad enough dude to rescue this article? |
Contents
Intro Graphics
Found inside data\gfx\image are 3 particular images for an opening sequence that was displayed during the Closed Beta testing in various regions.[1][2]
While these images are not unused, they require an Nvidia Geforce 3 or 4 series graphics card, which makes it practically impossible to see nowadays.
Of note is the different art style, reminiscent of early material from 2002.
The first image was later resized and reused as loading screen art, while the third was once planned to be used for the login screen.
Related, albeit rather badly translated text can be found in client.language.txt:

- Augustine's portrait went unused due to a misspelling for his .xml file (Augustin).
- Ropa's portrait was never used due to a missing .xml file.
- An early version of the Nao NPC, that had its own theme music.
- The Lord of Dunbarton, Fordyce, who is mentioned in some dialogs but never seen in-game.
Inventory Icons
Icons with no item data associated to them can be found inside data\gfx\image and data\gfx\image2
Food
Materials
An icon for the handmade dyes, which were meant to be used to in tailoring recipes, which would also modify their resell value to NPCs.
The items themselves were made and eventually repurposed into the Finishing Threads, which have kept all dye-related item tags.

A Part-time version for the scrapped Baguette item.
A Part-time version for the scrapped tailoring dye item.
Other Icons

This crystal is made out of gold, heavily resembles alchemy crystals, and is somehow related to alchemy itself.
Skill Icons
Various unused skill icons can be found inside gui_icon_skill_000 ~ 005.dds.
Advanced Reading was removed at some point before the UI update, but its icon was still remade.

An early icon for the Handicraft Skill. The icon itself was reused for the GM Skill "Pickup Item (GM Skill)".
Since the removal of Sharp Mind, it is impossible to fail reading a monster's loaded skill. Despite this change, the X version of this icon was remade, while some RP NPCs still retain the Sharp Mind skill.
An icon that heavily resembles Land Maker, which is used to lower and raise specific grounds in Iria. The only way to raise the ground is by using a Warm Wind L-Rod, which still uses the Land Maker icon.
A hidden skill that allows the player to interact with Guild Stones. The icon goes unseen and was later changed into the generic icon.
Various icons for used Monster Skills. These icons went unseen and were later changed into the generic icon.
Icons for scrapped Player Skills. These icons were later changed into the generic icon.

Achievement Icons
Endless amounts of achievement icons exist.

Grouped among the pet-related achievement sits this icon, depicting a cat with a 9 under it.
A pair of glasses on top of some books. A common theme...
Icons in the style of the Rua Sidequest achievement that are depicting Duncan, Aodhan, Alexina, Castanea, and Krug.
An achievement related to rebirths.
100 people having a really good time.
Two icons for mastering 50 and 60 skills respectively. The last achievement of this kind is awarded at 20 skills.
Icons related to the completion of dungeons. The game instead awards difficulty-specific achievements for each dungeon. Of note is the misspelling of "Rundal" as "Runda".
A combination of two used achievements with some additional details for finding all Uladh and Iria dungeons and discovering all Iria emblems.
An icon depicting the Uroborus from and for clearing Generation 11. The meaning of the "1" is unknown. An icon depicting the Brionac is awarded instead.
An icon depicting Cliona, presumably for having the highest bid in an auction.
Strange icons depicting... something. These icons were added with Generation 11 and the most noteworthy part is the mention of a "Nightmare" difficulty, which does not exist.
An icon depicting Nao, likely intended for giving her all dresses.
Icons for either reading books or finishing collection books, which are directly followed by...
- The Cooking Collections Books.
- Special Item Collection - Signs
- One or several Equipment Collection Books
- Collect Music Bottles
- The Fossil Collection Books.
- The Succubus Dress Collection Books

An icon depicting Eavan, which is notable for being separated from other icons in this style.
Collection Journal
Unused graphics related to the Collection Journal tab in the Character window can be found in data\gfx\gui\collect_book.
Character Window
Small icons with unknown purpose can be found inside gui_collection_icon, which holds the icons for all Journals and Diaries.
Cooking, Fishing, and Taming
A button to minimize Journal windows, found among several files, which is not possible.
Graphics for the minimized versions of the Fishing, Cooking, and Taming Journal windows, found inside gui_main_04_minimize.
These graphics were to be displayed near the stars for entries with five stars, found among several files, with the first graphic being intended for the overview list and the second for checking out a particular entry.
Icons for Turtle, which can be found in the Lord Mission "The Secret of Scathach Caverns".
Icons for Panther, whose transformation is obtained as a rank reward and cannot be found outside of events.
Icons for Leopard, which has taming data but no entry in the journal.
Transformation and Hunt Diary
Interface graphics and icons for unimplemented transformations and hunt entries can be found in gui_shapeshifter_act_01~04, gui_shapeshifter_npc_act_01~04, and
A uniquely colored variant of the "Top" button to jump back to the top of the list. The Transformation Diary uses its own unique graphic.

Icons for Blinker, the greatest of all plights found in Tara Shadow Missions.
An icon depicting what looks to be the unused Emperor Penguin enemy, but with notable differences, such as seemingly not having an animation loaded up and non-blue brows.
The only Emperor-type penguin to still exist in the data is the Blue Brown Emperor Penguin and its identical, albeit smaller, Young counterpart, which both only have its brows textured and colored blue.
Loading either of them up in a model viewer correctly displays its body texture, which matches up with the icon.
An icon depicting either the White Fox event enemy from the beta testing phase, the Silver Fox enemy, or Small Silver Fox pet.
The White Fox has not resurfaced since then, the Silver Fox is unused, and the Small Silver Fox pet cannot be killed, making this a transformation that would be obtained upon reaching a specific skill rank.
Icons for an unidentified version of the Hollow Knight, most likely a Bound Hollow Knight, sporting a weapon in each hand and a lighter armor hue.
Bound Hollow Knights can only be found in specific story missions, making it next to impossible to obtain this transformation outside of it being a rank reward.
Many transformation and hunt icons have erroneous depictions, such as larger torsos, wrong colors, or other miscellaneous mistakes, making it not unlikely that the same has happened here.
Icons for the masked variant of Python Knight, which can be found in Tara Shadow Missions.
Both transformation variants are instead obtained through the usage of "Shamala's Transformation Medal", with the NPC portrait being shown instead on the icon.
Icons for Lunar Lion, an event exclusive enemy for 2010 Lunar New Year Event, making this a rank reward like other event-related transformations.

Icons for the stone variant of Cromm Cruaich, which is fought at the end of Generation 3, likely making this a rank reward.
Icons for Legatus, an NPC, likely making this a rank reward.
Early icons for Eirawen, Ferghus, Huw, Portia, and the human form of Scathach, located as its own monster icon file.
The final NPC-related icons are saved in NPC-only files instead, and the third monster icon file is not even completely filled out, leaving plenty space for these icons.
Earlier icons of Manus and Bebhinn with their NA-exclusive designs.
Icons for Wanst and Weide, who are found in the town of Vales in the Physis region.
Icons for Tupai, who is found in Cor Village in the Courcle region.

Icons for Tani and Manannan from Generation 23.

Brilluen was meant to be included in the Joe's Odd Adventure Box, but was dummied out for some reason by adding a "1" at the end of Feature="gfCaravanJoeStrangeBox" in her unused entry.
Icons for the "I'll-Ban Knights", April Fools' Day versions of the Alban Knights, from the Mystery in Erinn event.
Commerce Trade Goods
