Development:Pokémon Gold and Silver/Sprites/990613
This is a sub-page of Development:Pokémon Gold and Silver/Sprites.
A set of sprites from an internal archive dated June 13, 1999, well into the game's transition to Game Boy Color. While these sprites represent a much later version of the games, with a lot of sprites already finalized, many Pokémon are still missing, or reuse leftover placeholder graphics from the Spaceworld '97 build. Moreover, there still only exists one set of sprites shared across both versions, instead of each one having a designated set.
Also present in this sprite bank is a series of Trainer sprites, some of which are also not present in the final game, mainly just leftovers from the Spaceworld '97 build.
Original 151
Sprites for the original Kanto Pokemon, many of which are identical to their final sprites in Gold.
Sprites 152-251
Sprites for the new Pokémon. A combination of Pokémon as they would appear in the final as well as some carried over from as far back as Spaceworld '97.

162 | Furret | オオタチ Ootachi |
Uses an earlier design, with a bulbous tail more reminiscent of Sentret's. The unusual bright pink palette was more than likely intended for Gyopin, given how close it matches with Goldeen's color scheme. This makes sense, since Furret overwrote Gyopin, as seen in the CBB scratchpads.

A Water/Steel-type Pokémon from Spaceworld '97. Reuses its sprites from said demo, albeit with a cropped back sprite, and updated jaw shading on its front sprite. The palette seen here was originally carried over as Chinchou's shiny. Accordingly, Chinchou occupies this Dex spot in the '99 demo.

Sprites match Gold final.
184 | Azumarill | マリルリ Mariruri |

Sprites match Gold final.
186 | Politoed | ニョロトノ Nyorotono |

Front sprite matches Gold final, albeit using a palette that resembles Quagsire's modern shiny palette. Reuses its back sprite from Spaceworld '97.

Front sprite matches Gold final. Reuses its back sprite from Spaceworld '97.

A Ghost-type Pokémon from Spaceworld '97. It reuses its front sprite from said demo, though its back sprite depicts a slightly different design, lacking the ears but with a headband and holding a nail in its right hand. Interestingly, its evolution, Kyonpan, is nowhere to be found in this archive. This Pokémon was overwritten by Misdreavus, which still uses Norowara's name in the '99 demo.
202 | . | ツインズ Tsuinzu |
The unused Girafarig pre-evolution from Spaceworld '97. It reuses its back sprite from said demo, though its front sprite depicts a more refined, Haunter-like design. Reworked into Wobbuffet, which still occupies the same Dex spot in the final games.
203 | Girafarig | キリンリキ Kirinriki |
Sprites match Gold final.
204 | . | コーニャ Koonya |

216 | Teddiursa | ヒメグマ Himeguma |
Uses Honooguma's front and back sprites as a base. Design is close to final, albeit with a yellow palette instead of a light brown one, a missing muzzle highlight, and a different forehead pattern. The yellow palette is easily explained, given how Teddiursa overwrote Kotora.

Sprites match Gold final.
218 | . | べトべビー Betobebī |
Grimer's pre-evolution from Spaceworld '97. Is assigned a grey palette and has slightly different eyes when compared to its '97 counterpart. Slugma occupies this Dex spot in the final games, and Betobebī's palette was carried over as its shiny.
219 | . | バリリーナ Barirīna |
Mr. Mime's pre-evolution from Spaceworld '97. Magcargo occupies this Dex spot in the final games, whereas Barirīna's palette was carried over to Corsola.
220 | . | . | Uses the Pikachu placeholder graphic with red palette applied. Given its placement in the dex, this spot may have been intended for Swinub.
221 | Piloswine | イノムー Inomū |
Sprites match Gold final.
222 | . | ワーウルフ Wāurufu |
An Ice-type Pokémon from Spaceworld '97, the final evolution of Urufuman. The front sprite's shading was updated, but its back sprite was left untouched. Wāurufu's palette was carried over as Slugma's shiny in the '99 demo, before ultimately being moved to shiny Magcargo.

Poses are similar to Gold final, but using an earlier design. Its front sprite features a sly grin instead of a gentle smile, and the "Remoraid" by its side are more akin to torpedoes/missiles. As for its back sprite, the antennae are thicker, and the motif looks like a wave instead of eyes.

Sprites match Gold final.
233 | Porygon2 | ポリゴン2 Porygon2 |

This sprite is also assigned a yellow palette with pink highlights that is seen in neither the regular or shiny version of Blissey in the final games. It is likely that another Pokémon was previously in this Dex spot and was overwritten, much like other Pokémon in this archive.
243 | Raikou | ライコウ Raikou |
Front sprite uses a slightly earlier design, with a fiercer expression and longer red fangs, more akin to those of a sabertooth tiger.

Front sprite uses a slightly earlier design, with a longer patch of chest fur. Back sprite matches final.

247 | . | ウルフマン Urufuman |
An Ice-type Pokémon from Spaceworld '97, now with updated shading on its front sprite. The fact that it is so far away from its evolution, Wāurufu, indicates that this is most likely just a placeholder for Pupitar. Accordingly, the later would ultimately inherit Urufuman's palette.
