Early Design Documents

GameInformer.com - An Exclusive Look At Pokémon's Early Design Documents (video) (Here's a direct video link for those who want it). There are a few documents for Pokemon Red and Green, though they look pretty dry and technical, not to mention hard to see in the video. For example:

  • 0:37 memory management, "Pocket Monsters Program Bank List"
  • 4:26 more Pokemon Red/Green stuff, very hard to see
  • 4:55 some C source code, though it may not be actually from Pokemon Red/Green. "It's just programming-related topics for notes at the time." He also later says Red/Green were written in assembly.
  • 5:00 "I wrote the battle parameters on this page" (very hard to see)
  • 5:14 "One of the unique things about Red, Green, Gold, and Silver is that we wrote them all in assembly."

Helix Chamber Data Dump

https://helixchamber.com/2019/02/16/what-dreams-may-come/ I imagine this is too sketchy to be included into the article? Ds22 (talk) 07:13, 24 February 2019 (EST)

Depends. If it's been faked, it's either been faked on HelixChamber's part or on the part of the leaker. If HelixChamber is telling the truth, the leaker proved the validity of the assets by asking for a Pokémon that only HC could've known about at the time (I think they describe this in the article but if they don't then they probably mentioned it on their Twitter). On the other hand though, it's not out of the question that HC fabricated the entire thing, but considering their place in the Pokemon prerelease / preservation community and their closeness to Team Spaceworld, this seems unlikely. The assets are even leading to discoveries in the later games, which seems to confirm their validity further. If it's still too sketchy then perhaps we'll just have to wait until the next time Game Freak shows one of the cut Pokemon to confirm it.--Hwd45 (talk) 12:33, 24 February 2019 (GMT)
From the following two articles, I think the leaked assets can be safely considered legitimate.

http://lavacutcontent.com/pokemon-beta-leaker-statement/
However, the nature of the leaks raises a different question. Since the assets leaked were stolen from Nintendo's servers by a hacker, is it safe to host them on this site?
Macrepeh (talk) 14:58, 3 February 2020 (EST)
Considering that SW97 was also one of those stolen files, and nothing has come about from hosting the demo here, I imagine it'll probably be fine. --Hwd45 (talk) 20:11, 3 February 2020 (GMT)
I'm unsure that this data should be hosted here unless all the data, not just excepts/converted versions of it, are released. Might fall under the "hoarded prototype" rule. --Hiccup (talk) 14:15, 4 February 2020 (EST)
It is unfortunate that all we got from it was a bunch of data and not actual ROMs, but since the hacker plead guilty and was legally required to delete what they had, it is likely that this is all we're ever going to get. The fact that the assets are out there but the ROMs aren't does make this an unusual case. I'm not sure what sort of precedent exists for a case like this on TCRF. -- Macrepeh (talk) 22:06, 4 February 2020 (EST)
The second link Macrepeh posted above starts with a shortened version of what the leaker originally said pre-interview, but in the original post they mentioned that the hacker (leaker 1) released the Gold/Silver demos in full, but afterwards the (second) leaker released copied and altered stuff for the Gen 1 and Gen 4 data, converting images to a .png format and such, just to avoid this problem.TrainerX493 (talk) 01:26, 5 April 2020 (UTC)

English Anime Style Guide

While browsing through archive.org, I came across an early style guide for the English version of the anime that has a list of all the Pokemon with early names that - as far as I can tell - seem to come between the early poster names and the sticker names that are documented on the prerelease page. Although this is technically for the anime, would this be worth mentioning? The style guide in question: https://archive.org/details/pokemon-guide-watermarked/mode/2up --Sil (talk) 08:15, 22 April 2021 (UTC)

Generally I would say yes absolutely. For the life of me I can't remember where that actually came from though... --ChainSwordCS (talk) 08:42, 15 May 2021 (UTC)
Oh my God I remember now! It was the "Art of Nintendo Power" guy. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l_07hQljFMI Good thing I caught this. His YouTube channel is still incredibly niche. When I first saw the video I figured it would be archived and dissected by other people, but I guess it pretty much went under the radar. --ChainSwordCS (talk) 09:02, 15 May 2021 (UTC)

Localized Game Manual Scans

I will be getting my hands on the manual for USA Pokemon Blue in the near future. It's actually purchased from Canada, so it may potentially not be the USA version, but we will see. When it comes, I'll get good scans of the whole manual and particularly good 1200 DPI scans of the screenshots included. --ChainSwordCS (talk) 08:07, 15 May 2021 (UTC)
