This is a sub-page of Proto:Counter-Strike (Windows).

Beta 3.0 is the third major Counter-Strike public beta released by the team. A classic map, cs_militia, is added to the game in Beta 3.0, along with the P90 and the Knife. This is the last revision that plays close to Beta 1.1.

General

Commander

Beta 3.0 introduces the Commander, a role a random player is given at the start of a game. Commanders can use some special voice commands (which go unused in the final game), but otherwise they are the same as regular players.

Death Announcements

When a teammate is killed, the game will play the announcer saying "Teammate down". If an enemy is killed, the game will automatically have the announcer say "Enemy Down".

This was cut in Beta 3.1, but the sounds are still in the final game.

Radio Sounds

Several radio sounds have been added to the game and can be used by anyone.

Grenade Toss Notification

The game will now play the announcer saying "Fire in the hole!' whenever a grenade is tossed, like in the final game.

Weapon Prices

Weapon Beta 3.0 price Final price
Desert Eagle $650 $800
M3 pump shotgun $2000 $1750
M4A1 $3250 $3100

Kevlar with Helmet

Kevlar with a helmet was added to the game in Beta 3.0.

Purchasing Items

The weapon purchase screen now lets the player access items as an option instead of making the player access the item menu with a separate command.

Weapons

P90

Beta 3.0 marks the first appearance of the P90. It has the same model it does in the final game, but it has much less recoil than in the final game, making it a great weapon for almost any range.

Knife

After being teased in Beta 1.1, the Knife finally appears in Beta 3.0.

The Knife has a completely different model with a blade texture meant to make it look shiny. It has only one attack and different animations as well.

AWP

The AWP still uses the Beta 2.0 scope reticle in Beta 3.0, and will continue to do so for several prototypes after Beta 3.0.

G3 SG/1

The Beta 2.0 G3 SG/1's scope has a different reticle compared to the final scope.

Concussion Grenade (Flashbang)

The Flashbang has been reworked into the Concussion Grenade in Beta 3.0. It essentially serves as a fusion of the Flashbang and the later HE Grenade; when it explodes, it blinds whoever is in its explosion radius and damages enemies with shrapnel. Because of its increased potent, the cost was increased to $200.

Later prototypes of the game split the damaging part of the Concussion Grenade into the HE Grenade and turned the Concussion Grenade back into the Flashbang, but the price increase remained.

Graphics

P90 and Knife Weapon Selection Icons

The Knife and P90's weapon icons are different in Beta 3.0. The Knife was completely redrawn between this prototype and the final game, while the P90's icon appears to have been enlarged and given more details between Beta 3.0 and the final game.

Scoreboard

The scoreboard now shows how many teams each team has won and how many kills they have gotten underneath each the player information.

Durah Cell (L33t Krew) Player Model

This prototype adds the L33t Krew player model, known as Durah Cell (arab in the files) in this prototype. This model uses much simpler textures than the final design.

GSG9 Player Model

Beta 3.0 adds the GSG9 player model to the game. This version of the GSG9 model is completely different from the one used in the final game; his helmet is a different type, he has a patch on his shoulders, and his vest does not have "Poliezei" on it.

The "showplayerinfo" command has been updated to show if you are the commander.

Sounds

Weapon Firing Sounds

Several weapons have different firing sounds in this prototype.

Prototype P90 Firing Sounds Final P90 Firing Sound
Prototype MP5 Firing Sound 1 Final MP5 Firing Sound 1
Prototype MP5 Firing Sound 2 Final MP5 Firing Sound 2

ct_imhit.wav

"ct_imhit.wav" is a usable voice command in this prototype, but removed from the final game.

Levels

Readded Levels

"cs_mansion" reappears in this prototype.

cs_hideout

"cs_hideout" has the Counter-Terrorists rescuing hostages from a bunker in the desert. However, the map is heavily slanted towards the Terrorist team, as the CTs must cross through a pond that has a usable machine gun turret the Terrorists can use.

Once past the turret, the CTs can enter the bunker, find some hostages, then head underground and worm their way through an area with a warehouse and another room with hostages. After that, they can head up and open a set of double doors near the bunker.

cs_militia

Couch

Beta 3.0's cs_militia lacks a couch near the staircase to the second floor that is near the TV.

Prototype Final
Csb3 cs militia1.png Csfinal cs militia1.png

Bar

The bar lacks the "Beck's" logo behind it in Beta 3.0.

Prototype Final
Csb3 cs militia2.png Csfinal cs militia2.png

Attic

The attic is darker and has the boxes arranged differently in Beta 3.0. The most important thing is that it lacks the destroyable vent in Beta 3.0, forcing the CTs to go through the kitchen area in order to reach the hostages.

Prototype Final
Csb3 cs militia3.png Csfinal cs militia3.png

Corner Movement

The corner near the two boxes with explosive warnings on them is pointed in Beta 3.0, but has been rounded in the final version. This also made the boxes shift to the left in the final game.

Prototype Final
Csb3 cs militia4.png Csfinal cs militia4.png

cs_ship

"cs_ship" takes place on a boat in the middle of the sea. It contains several vertical levels, making it different from most of the Counter-Strike maps seen in the prototypes and the final game, which are usually horizontal. The hostages are located on the bottom floor and the CTs must bring them to the top of the boat.

Images of Saddam Hussein can be found throughout the map.

cs_siege

Removed Cameras

The cameras have been removed.

Prototype Final

Tower Boxes

The tower near CT spawn has a set of boxes to the left of it, like in the final game.

Prototype Final
Csb3 cs siege3.png Csfinal cs siege2.png

cs_tire

"cs_tire" has the CT team navigate through a compound in a desert in order to find hostages. Like in cs_ship, the hostages are very far from the rescue zone.
