This is a sub-page of Proto:Fire Emblem (Game Boy Advance).

Almost every piece of artwork for cutscenes in the prototype is different from final. Only two of the cutscene pieces are the same as final. A few of the cutscene graphics vary between prototypes, though most of them are identical unless otherwise noted.

The majority of complete story images in the prototype lack the filters on the final version, generally resulting in brighter colors and less obscured details. The level of completion varies, story images earlier in the game are typically mostly complete, while some of story graphics for later in the game consist of nothing but basic outline sketches.

Opening Sequence

Some of the artwork in the opening sequence was redone after the prototype. The most notable of these was the fixing of a dragon with a particularly hilarious face.

Lyn's Tale

The story graphics for Lyn's Tale, which comprises the first ten chapters of the game, are the most complete looking. All of them feature some degree of color and shading.

The general scene is identical, and features color differences typical of the prototypes. The most obvious difference is the border on the sides of the image. Lyn's face and ponytail were touched up, and the way she is holding the cup was adjusted.

Various touch ups were made, Sain's (the man in green armor) face was redrawn, and the horse's head was made bigger. Lyn's ponytail was also adjusted. This is also another image featuring a border.

The background scenery appears to have been blurrier in the prototype. Lyn's ponytail and hair, yet again, were changed. Lyn's face was also touched up, this is most obvious with the shading on her eyes.

Yet again, Lyn's hair was edited between versions. Florina's pegasus appears to have gone missing between revisions, sadly. The background scenery appears to have been redone entirely between revisions. This is the first graphic to lack the border. All of the artwork after this one lacks the border.

A fairly identical set of images between the revisions, with the most notable differences being coloring. The prototype surrounds characters with a white halo, presumably to make them stand out from the background scenery better. The "action lines" are still in the final version, though the new coloring makes them much less pronounced.

One of the more obviously incomplete images from early in the game. Lyn's hair was, again, touched up. The dead man's arm, and the horseman were tweaked. The horse's head also got bigger in the final version.

Minor tweaks were made to Eliwood (the man carrying the girl in the blue dress), like his hair and right hand. Lyn's hair was adjusted again. Aside from the coloring and slight positioning adjustments of the characters the images are very similar. This image may have been flipped at some point before this in development, as Lyn's sheath is on the wrong side (it is typically depicted on her left hip, not her right).

The background was finished, and the entire image was tilted to, presumably, make the image feel more dynamic and action-y. Lyn's grip on her sword was adjusted... in the prototype, she is dangerously close to chopping off her ponytail. The ponytail itself was adjusted. Again. Lundgren's (the heavily armored man on the right) grip on his spear was changed, he holds it at a different angle between revisions. Unlike one of the earlier images, the action lines appear to have been removed entirely instead of made more subtle.

Lyn's hair and posture were adjusted.

Everything about the image, Lyn's hair, eyes, the sky behind her, was either redone or touched up between versions.

Lyn's stance was adjusted and the sunset was made brighter against the buildings.

Eliwood/Hector's Tales

Florina's Pegasus was given a thicker mane, Eliwood's mouth was reduced in size slightly and the position of his head was adjusted. The line bisecting the image was made less solid as well.

Both Ninian's and Nils's heads were shortened vertically and they were both shifted down a bit, making them shorter. Nils was also made shorter than Ninan, which is in line with their relative heights depicted elsewhere.

The most notable, and obvious change, is that Ninian and Eliwood were removed from the picture entirely, though they are still present for this scene in dialogue. Hector's cape also appears to have been redone somewhat. The background scenery also appears to have been redone, or at least shifted around.

The picture has several anatomy tweaks, with Eliwood being made larger one of the more noticeable ones. Hector's pauldron was enlarged and Elbert's shoulder was adjusted. Hector's head shape was also adjusted.

Several more anatomy tweaks. Eliwood's head placement was adjusted, and his shoulders were made somewhat narrower. The way Eliwood is holding Elbert's hand was adjusted as well. Like Hector in the previous picture Elbert's head shape was adjusted.

Either the image was flipped or it is based on the earlier similar image. Nils's posture was changed and Ninian's eyes were closed.

In the first pair of images Nergal's expression went from slightly surprised to a scowl. In both images his clothing was adjusted slightly, with the trailing end of his turban getting the most noticeable adjustments.

The images are very similar with no minor anatomy tweaks like other images. The sky was redone and more shading was added, in particular giving the Ice Dragon more muscle tone.

One of the story graphics that differ between the two prototypes, it was colored in after the 0205 revision, and Eliwood's head placement was adjusted between revisions. Eliwood's head placement was changed again for the final version. His shoulders were also made a bit wider for final.

Another image colored in between revisions. The 0219 version may have a tile floor as a temporary background, as no version of the scene takes place on a tile floor.

Aside from the fact that the prototype image is very unfinished, there were no changes to the basic contents of the image aside from the sand dunes in the background being moved around.

The sketch shows that the building's windows were arranged differently originally.

The placement of the ghostly eyes is different in the sketch than final, otherwise there are no notable differences aside from being incomplete.

Ninian and Nils (the two dragons shown) received several anatomy adjustments, with the main difference being their faces were elongated somewhat. Their thighs also got bigger.

The leftmost dragon was redrawn completely. The dragon closest to the viewer, and rightmost on the screen, had some structural changes applied to their horns and brow. The Gate that the dragons are coming out of was widened.

The struck ice dragon seems to have been redrawn. Eliwood was also adjusted a lot, though he ends up looking like the final image anyway. His posture, clothes, and grip on Durandal are different.

The image is virtually identical, aside from the filter applied for the final release. It makes sense this image would be very complete, as it is one of the key arts used for the game's advertising, and a much higher resolution version was featured on the cover of guidebooks and the like.

The general content of the image is the same, though Hector faces in a different direction. And Lyn's ponytail was adjusted once more.

Endings Scenes

The player can obtain different pictures in the ending depending on which characters gained support levels with others.

Almost identical, aside from an applied filter and some small rocks added to the cliff-face at the front of the castle.

Several size adjustments were made, Lyn and Nils became shorter and Eliwood became slightly larger. Athos's blue robes were given more shading.

Nils's hair may have gotten more shading, though otherwise the image is the same, it just has a filter applied.

It should be noted that this image's companion, featuring both Ninian and Nils in front of the portal, is unchanged from the prototype. It is possible that the developers forgot to apply the filter to that image.

Eliwood's head placement was adjusted, the top of Ninan's head was made slightly smaller.

Several tweaks were made to the background, the curtains were finished and the throne's arm rests were adjusted for perspective. Jahn's (the cloaked man on the right) cloak was change to cover more of his body. This is one of the images that goes unused in the European release.

There is one unused piece of artwork in the prototype. It also goes unused in the final. This is possibly in error as a scene occurs in the game where another piece of artwork is reused where this piece may have been intended to be used. This image can appear in the prototype's sound room if the debug button combination that unlocks everything in the sound room is used.

Aside from the completion of the image it bears no major differences from final.
