Map Image

I would love to post this map image, but do not know the source. It's circulating on many "tech" news sites without credit today. Does anyone know the author so that I can post and properly tag the creator? --Mold (talk) 01:34, 1 June 2018 (EDT) Map of Proto-G/S Japan Region

フォント

With signs indicating this area became the ruins of Alph. This location may actually be "Font" as in text font (like Times New Roman), not Fount like listed in the spreadsheet. Indeed "font" is why my dictionary suggests. --Agiletek (talk) 01:31, 1 June 2018 (EDT)

Location Notes

Taken from spreadsheet:

  • サイレント (Silent): Based on Shizuoka Prefecture (静岡 - 静 = silent, 岡 = hill)
  • ニュータイプ (New Type): Based on Niigata Prefecture (新型 - 新 = new, 型 = type)
  • ブルーフォレスト (Blue Forest): Based on Aomori Prefecture (青森 - 青 = blue, 森 = forest)

My own observations:

  • ウエスト (West): Based on Osaka in the Kansai region, just like Goldenrod City in the final game. (関西 - Shortened to just 西, west).
  • ハイテク (High Tech): Based on Kōchi Prefecture in Shikoku. (高知 - 高 = High, not sure how to get tech out of 知). I see three different aquariums on Google for this prefecture, not sure if the one here is based on any particular one.
  • シュガー (Sugar): Based on Sado Island. Possible wordplay - Sado = Satou (Sugar)? This could be where the mine dungeon would be located, based on Sado mine.
  • サウス (South): Based on Ōita Prefecture on Kyushu (Named because it's the southernmost island).
  • ノース (North): Based on Hokkaido Prefecture (北海 - Shortened to just 北, north).

Cave maps

Not sure if this is well-known here or not but apparently all the cave maps exist in the demo but are inaccessible since cave tiles function differently than door tiles, or something to that degree https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YWoVVIK6xBs --Zak-something (talk) 15:48, 9 June 2018 (EDT)

Generation I comparisons

Unlike the Pokémon sprites, which seem to have used Pokémon Blue as a starting point, for Kanto-based areas both the Space World demo and the final Gold and Silver use a tileset designed to reflect how things looked in Pokémon Red and Green – most noticeable when looking at things like dirt, or signs. Since this is the case, would it be better to use maps sourced from the Japanese Red and Green versions for any Kanto-based comparisons? I'm not sure if this affects anything other than overworld areas - this may need looking into further. --McAleeCh (talk) 11:26, 19 June 2018 (EDT)

Also, I notice the Generation I Pokémon Center map is monochrome - should this be the case for all globally reused rooms which can appear with differing palettes? If so, then the Generation I Poké Mart will need similar treatment, along with any globally-reused maps from the Space World demo. --McAleeCh (talk) 11:49, 19 June 2018 (EDT)

Red/Blue's house

Given that "Blue's house" has two floors as Red's house should, and the lower floor contains the same NPC used as Red's mother in the final game in the same position as the final game, is it not possible that this actually is Red's house and that the developers simply messed up on which house should be which? The two "Blue's house" maps do bear a pretty close resemblance to the final "Red's house" maps, and the single "Red's house" map likewise has similarities to the final's "Blue's house" map. It'd also explain why two random NPCs seem to be inhabiting "Red's house" - if it's actually Blue's house, Blue and Professor Oak are now living in Silent Hills, and Blue's sister is working (and living?) at Professor Oak's old laboratory. --McAleeCh (talk) 13:29, 20 June 2018 (EDT)

Have updated the article to reflect this, adding notes that although the map designs/NPC placements strongly suggest the maps are switched geographically it's impossible to be certain without the script/events for the Kanto area. --McAleeCh (talk) 05:38, 21 June 2018 (EDT)

Iron Island?

The area north to the "Prototype Canalave City" has an area that looks a lot like Iron Island. Shouldn't it go with the "Possible Sinnoh Locations" after it's analyzed further? --Chippy2001 (talk) 18:41, 16 August 2018 (EDT)

Early Ruins of Alph/Solaceon Ruins

I'd say the early Ruins of Alph's concept as Unown-populated ruins in a town map that are separated from the rest of the town by trees is highly reminiscent of the Solaceon Ruins in Sinnoh. Would there be any opposition to me mentioning the possible inspiration in the article? Redz (talk) 00:18, 31 January 2019 (EST)
