Sucks
Here's a suggestion for the organization. Something along the lines of a heading for "Version Differences" documenting glitches fixed. Another heading for "Localization Changes" with subheadings for "(Translation) Errors", "Censorship", "Details Lost in Translation".
Also, it is of my opinion that the intentional differences between Japanese Red and Green vs. Japanese Blue need not be documented. I already removed the sprites, and hope that Game Corner and others will follow suit. However, the unused (is it unused in every Gen 1 release?) Butterfree for Beedrill trade does need to remain; however, the other trade information is worthless in my opinion.
I also feel that the Unknown Dungeon/Cerulean Cave maps don't belong. At the very least, the Yellow version and FireRed/LeafGreen version don't belong, as Yellow is a different game and FireRed/LeafGreen's is as similar to Red/Green's as any other map in FireRed/LeafGreen is to it's Red/Blue counterpart. Has it been stated why the change was made between Japanese Red/Green and Japanese Blue?
Finally, in a comment in the article is
There are minor differences in the credits between the North American English and European English versions of Red and Blue.
Are there? I've downloaded every ROM I could get my hands on, but there doesn't seem to be any alternate English versions. I'm pretty sure American, Canadian, European, and Australian English versions are the exact same.
- I think it would be a good idea to list the changes done in yellow in the yellow article, as that makes the most sense imo. Anton Cool Guy (talk) 06:51, 3 January 2017 (EST)
Versions
Here is a list of versions. This can help determine, for example, which European versions have certain glitches fixed. These are listed based on their base code. Note how the European versions are grouped. This is because they seem to share a more similar code base (they share the same character table, and certain glitches fixed in Spanish is also fixed in Italian). How can we incorporate this into the article?
- Japanese Red/Green 1.0
- Japanese Red/Green 1.1
- Japanese Blue
- English Red/Blue
- German and French Red/Blue
- Spanish and Italian Red/Blue
Details Lost or Changed in Translation
Why, if I may ask, do we have this? I thought we didn't cover changes in translation since that is kind of what happens when you translate a game into another languages. If this is an example, thousands of others are to follow. -- Sheeza 11:44, 3 January 2013 (EST)
- See also the "this page sucks" at the top of the page. No one ever told me about this rule, and when I split all this off from the main article, this felt like the smartest way to organize it. Also no one ever told me whether or not we cover that, but all those examples were already in the main article when I split it. I'd like some more official word on this. - I also agree that that thing should be removed, since it's really pointless. We don't want to hear about things like "It's known as that in Japanese but not in English". — The preceding unsigned comment was added by Anton Cool Guy (talk • contribs)
- This is kind of a borderline case IMO. While we don't normally list trivial details like, "Ash was known as Satoshi in the Japanese release", some of these are relevant enough to be worth listing. The Tunguska reference may have been changed for political reasons, the "I" vs. "we" in Mewtwo's creation changes how the event is viewed (from a personal scientist likely working alone and against accepted scientific doctrine, to a large group working towards some specific goal). The other changes are less relevant, but I think at least the above two should stay regardless of what's decided for the remaining ones. Bast (talk) 07:48, 3 January 2017 (EST)
Effect chance %
Are we sure the freeze probability is 9.8% in Red and Blue, rather than 10.16% ? In Pokémon Stadium every ~10% extra Effect is coded to have a 26/256 chance of happening, and I suspect this to be the case in RBY as well. --Froggy25 (talk) 00:40, 20 March 2015 (EDT)
- I think you're right. The disassembly makes it look like side effects can happen either 26/256 (10.2%) or 77/256 (30.1%) of the time (line 7379 and two lines below that, for reference). I don't know if this is true in all versions, though. --Rapstah (talk) 05:06, 20 March 2015 (EDT)
Jynx
I was told that for the Virtual Console releases, Jynx's skin color for all three games was made lighter. Her skin was made a shade lighter in RB, and in Y, it was changed to purple. Can anyone confirm/post comparasions? Bazzard (talk) 13:01, 3 April 2016 (EDT)
Just in case this wasn't brought up
Youtube video which lists some differences between VC and original. See video description. --Mugg1991 (talk) 05:37, 22 March 2017 (EDT)
Safari zone change
According to this video, In Pokemon Yellow, if the player attempts to enter the safari zone with no money, you are allowed to enter for free with one safari ball.Cheddarandchocolate (talk) 18:32, 16 December 2017 (EST)
- Added to the article. Feel free to wipe this entry later on. As in, remove this entry since it's been taken care of. --Mugg1991 (talk) 12:24, 17 September 2018 (EDT)
Sprites
Hi, I didn't see anything about sprite differences, so I'll drop a quick mention here. Most if not all Pokemon sprites in battle are different between versions. Maybe the page could cover at least some of the more notable ones. Example --Mugg1991 (talk) 13:16, 30 August 2018 (EDT)
Sprites
I added a mention of the different sprites. Should I put in images of them? They can all be found here --Longtime4321
