Deus Ex takes place in the year 2052, in a cyberpunk world with inequality and a deadly plague.
Pictured here is an old low quality NY skybox texture. The World Trade Center texture is technically used as a placeholder for the Hong Kong skyboxes, but is always invisible in-game. According to a 2015 AMA with Warren Spector, the towers being missing was a result of an artist leaving them out, however with a 15 year difference, he could be misremembering with since texture exists.
