Pokémon Gold and Silver was under development for nearly four years, starting shortly after the original games completed development. The game was shown off at Spaceworld 1997 and 1999, with the former apperance bearing little resemblance to the final game. The demos would eventually be leaked.
Pictured is Kotora, one of the many Pokémon present in the Spaceworld 1997 demo that would be scrapped by the final version. Interestingly, back sprites for a three-stage evolution of Kotora can be found in source code for Red and Blue.
