So very stubbly.
This page is rather stubbly and could use some expansion.
Are you a bad enough dude to rescue this article?

Copy Protection

Tetris PC-98 anti-piracy 1.pngTetris PC-98 anti-piracy 2.png

During the copyright screen that appears after the BPS logo, the game performs several tests, including checksumming a specific area of RAM, to determine whether or not the game is being booted from a genuine disk. If any of the checks fail, the game will go to a version of the title screen where the normal credits are replaced with an endless loop of "BULLET-PROOF SOFTWARE" and "TETRIS IS ONLY 6,800 YEN", with the "line clear" sound effect playing each time the text changes. It's not possible to continue to the actual game from this screen.

While copies of the game circulating online seem to patch out these copy protection checks, you can see this screen for yourself by changing the two bytes at offset 0x33FF in TETRIS.EXE to 90 90.
