This is a list of games I think might be interesting to investigate for some reason but for which I have no evidence of unused content (i.e. reasons to add these games to Content to expand). I'm not much of a hacker, so if anyone wants to look into anything on the list, they should feel free. That said, they're here because I have a particular interest in them, so I do plan on looking into them myself ... I just don't expect to find anything.

Patterns to note:

  • Among developers, Morning Star, Natsume and Vicarious Visions each released three rumble games; Left Field released two, together totaling 11/22 titles (50%).
  • Among publishers, Nintendo released four rumble games; Vatical released three; Hasbro, Majesco and Victor each released two, together totaling 13/22 titles (59%).

It's possible that other games by these developers and publishers had rumble support at some point in their development, later dropped as a cost-cutting measure. Two such examples are Disney's Tarzan, which supports rumble but wasn't released on a rumble cartridge in any region, and Legend of the River King 2, which was published on a non-rumble cart in the US and Europe but can easily be tweaked to re-enable the rumble feature from the Japanese version.

Games of Interest

Below is a list of Game Boy Color games released after April 1999 (when the first rumble-enabled games were released) associated with the above-noted "rumble evangelist" developers and publishers.

Notes:

  • Natsume games are not listed at all here because there's several hundred thousand of them; see GameFAQs.
  • The games by Vicarious Visions in the first list were the developer's first three Game Boy Color games, after which they never again released a rumble game. It's unlikely that they continued to add rumble support to every game only to have it cut, so rather than include their entire catalogue, only the subsequent three games are listed above. For a more complete list, see GameFAQs.
  • Top Gear Pocket 2 is included here despite the fact that Vision Works only developed one rumble game because it's a direct sequel to another rumble game (good chance of shared code) and was published by three-time rumbler Vatical.

Revisional Differences in DMG-to-CGB Ports?

These games were all originally released for the monochrome Game Boy and later received colorized ports on Game Boy Color. Aside from the color, there's a decent chance of further changes, especially as some of these are released years apart. Also, a handful of them are CGB-exclusive in their later incarnations and may have leftovers from their mono history.

Many of these games have already been documented on the wiki and are mostly just here for the sake of completeness.

Notes:

  • It's not all that clear whether Elevator Action EX is a colorized version of Elevator Action for DMG. Some of the assets are shared, but the Color version is pretty substantially reworked. At the very least, it's clearly more than a revision.
  • Konami GB Collection, Vol. 2 includes Frogger, but this seems to be an original port rather than a colorized version of the Game Boy game. Similarly, Vol. 3's Guttang Gottong is a version of the arcade game Loco-Motion and does not appear to be based on any Game Boy release.
  • Bottom Up released a Game Boy title, Trump Collection GB, and followed it up with Pocket Color Trump on the GBC. They're not strictly the same game; Collection has Daifugo, Speed, Nervous Breakdown (i.e. Concentration), Fan-Tan and Poker, while Pocket replaces the last three with Dobon, Page One and Blackjack. Nonetheless, the latter game borrows heavily from the former and Daifugo and Speed are colorized versions of the mono game's.
