The New Zealand Story Edit

In your edit summary, you ask "what on earth I was talking about". Well, it's a bit of a long story, but a while ago I attended a talk by a Maori culture expert who briefly touched on the game, saying that it was an unfortunately poor representation of Maori culture and specifically mentioning a point in the game where some generic native American totem poles are seen next to a bunch of teepee-looking things, which would be incredibly racist if it were true. Being the idiot I was at the time, I didn't do any research and just added that little blurb to the page since I felt that people ought to know about it. After watching some gameplay footage though, I actually can't find where those totem poles and teepees are in the game (though it is worth noting that many of the walls are covered in quite generic pseudo-Egyptian symbols, pseudo-Roman wall carvings, and weird cave paintings, none of which reflect the Maori culture). I'll just stay out of it until I know a little more about what's going on. --Murnjendoof (talk) 02:16, 23 September 2023 (UTC)

Thank you for explaining. As a First Nations gamer who's played Taito since he was 5, no, I can assure you that smoking kiwis and frozen whales have never gone out of their way to be racist. You're dealing with the devs who turned a Greek philosopher into a witch, who later changed her name to Tremi.

...that and there's a Taito game with a native guy in it and I had no issue with it because he's cool and he plumbs pipes.

What he said does strike me as strange. By any chance, did your teacher confuse the game with Banjo-Kazooie?
