It's time to be EXTREME!

To do:
  • Version differences, Update 1 to Update 10. Also vanilla to DX to DX+ revisions.
  • More regional differences.
  • There's tons of unused content.

Unused Graphics

Untextured GT-R

An upside-down image of an untextured Nissan Skyline GT-R V-Spec II (appears to be Wangan Midnight R model) appears for unknown purposes.

Unused Models

RGO Garage

Inside the file contains an unused garage of the Speedfactory RGO, Yamanaka's tuning shop. This wasn't present in the game until Wangan Midnight Maximum Tune 6.

Unused Cars

Development Cars

Among the files were the cars that were unfinished by the time of Update 1 to Update 7 of Maximum Tune 5. However, Audi and Dodge didn't make a release in the Japanese vanilla version of Maximum Tune 5 until 5DX while other regions had these cars. These cars have proper badges and lacks wall collision, but still using the default Nissan Skyline GTR V-Spec II (R34) meter as a placeholder.

Leftover Cars

Much like Wangan Midnight Maximum Tune 4, Namco Bandai didn't manage to clean up all the files during development, there are several leftover cars from previous Maximum Tune games were exists in the files and not bind into the car data. Trying to load these in-game will either load a proper model (converted from N2 to ES1/3's model) or a Dummy Nissan Skyline GT-R V-Spec II (R34).

Regional Differences

Asian/Indonesian version

While the Japanese version had an updated interface, new entry music, a mini-map was brought back after being absent from Wangan Midnight Maximum Tune 4, and added two new courses which were based on the Sub-Center part of Tokyo (Shibuya/Shinjuku and Ikebukuro), the hardware itself ran on Namco System ES3.

The Asian version (countries outside of Japan) however, it was ran on Namco System ES1, and it was heavily the same as Maximum Tune 4 (same entry music as that game), but with the addition of VS Grade Aura system, added Audi and Dodge, as well as Hakone (Mt. Taikan) in place of Sub-Center areas from the Japanese version. The game also lacks mini-map as well.

The Indonesian version is the same as the Asian version, except the Ghost Battle Mode only restricts to Indonesian servers (except Japan challenge).

North American version

Japan/Asia North America

While the content itself retains from the Asian version, the North American version of this game was vastly different from Asia and Japan regions. Due to the lack of Wangan Midnight name in the title, all of the previous games' soundtrack whose logos represented in the game were edited and given retronyms. All the previous Maximum Tune games were edited to remove the "Wangan Midnight" part of the title, with the exception of Wangan Midnight R, which was simply renamed to just Midnight R in the style of edited Maximum Tune logos (generic white text). However, Wangan Terminal's name was kept.

In opposite of Gemballa vehicles being removed from the International versions of Wangan Midnight Maximum Tune until 3DX+, Toyota Celsior and Aristo were removed and as a result, Gatchan and Mrs. Sasaki's car were replaced by Crown Athlete and Chaser Tourer V respectively. Because of this, Gatchan is nowhere to be seen on the car tuning screen and the Chapter 27's second loop title was changed from "Super Celsior" to "Super Crown".

Much like the Indonesian version, the Ghost Battle Mode in this version only restricts to USA and Canada except for Japan Challenge.
