This is a sub-page of Castlevania: Symphony of the Night (PlayStation).
This is various voice clips which can be found on the game disc. The files have been arranged in the order they are suspected to play in. The order of files are not all in order on the game disc and many Japanese voice clips are also present. | Sound File | Person | Dialogue | Note |
|---|---|---|---|
| Richter | Ha, I knew it. Only the Count is a true match for me. | Taunt meant to play during the Game Over screen. The Japanese version plays a voice clip at the Game Over screen. You can replace the Game Over music with this dialogue using GameShark codes D00974A0 0018 + D0138458 003E + 80138458 00DC. | |
| Richter | The blood of Dracula flows strongly in you after all. But this whip is not my only weapon. | Taunt after first phase of battle before using whip power-up. Change Richter's normal taunt to this with GameShark codes D0138458 00E1 + 80138458 00D9. | |

This voice clip matches more of the original Japanese dialogue than the one used in final, in the usage of verbs - both has longer sentence to praise Alucard's power, but was changed in final for some reason. | |
| Richter | (groans) | Probably meant for after Shaft's orbs defeat after equipping the Holy Glasses. | |
| Richter | (groans) | Probably meant for after Shaft's orbs defeat after equipping the Holy Glasses. Has metallic echo following the voice, probably because at one point of development Shaft's voice could be involved alongside Richter's voice to perform his "being possessed" status. |
Richter Saved
The PSP version has some of this dialogue after the battle with Richter and if you go back to the normal castle before going too far into the inverted castle. Richter and Maria would be standing in the same place you left them when the character ventures into the inverted castle.
| Sound File | Person | Dialogue | Note |
|---|---|---|---|
| Maria | Richter, you are too hurt! | When Maria comes in to see Richter. Sounds like Engrish. | |
| Richter | Shaft, the dark priest, is in the other castle. He's trying to resurrect Dracula. You must hurry! | Richter telling Alucard where Shaft went. #2 dialogue in PSP version. | |
| Alucard | You two get out of here, I'll finish this. | Alucard telling them to leave. | |
| Maria | Be careful Alucard. I'll pray for your soul. | Maria wishing him well. #1 Dialogue in PSP version. |
Shaft Meeting
Alternate dialogue of the Shaft encounter in the inverted castle.
Technical explanation: There're triggers that will determine the dialogue's variation in Dracula X Chronicles port. If the dialogue that defeated and saved Richter mentioned about Shaft's name occurs, Alucard will "know" about Shaft's name, and cause this alternate dialogue appear. The PS1 US version didn't have the dialogue variation triggers, or anything else that is possibly to become the trigger.
| Sound File | Person | Dialogue | Note |
|---|---|---|---|
| Alucard | So you are the one called Shaft? | Alucard meeting Shaft. | |
| Shaft | I am he. | Shaft answers. |
Shaft Battle
Alternate dialogue of the Shaft encounter in the inverted castle after battle.
| Sound File | Person | Dialogue | Note |
|---|---|---|---|
| Shaft | No. No! | ||
| Alucard | It seems that your power is insufficient. | ||
| Shaft | Five years. Five years to gather my powers for this. And all for naught!? | ||
| Alucard | One who plays so close to the fire cannot fail but be burned. | Seems to be translated straight from the original Japanese dialogue, and doesn't match any text strings in the English versions. | |
| Shaft | Oh ho ho ho. The gateway opens! | Shaft announcing Dracula's arrival. | |
| Alucard | This must not be. | ||
| Shaft | (groans) Count Dracula! | Probably Shaft before death. | |
| Alucard | Damn. |
Someone Defeated
Alucard defeating someone.
| Sound File | Person | Dialogue | Note |
|---|---|---|---|
| Alucard | Consumed by the very demonic powers that he summoned. | Could be meant for after the Shaft battle, but not certain. |
Death
Alternate dialogue during the Death encounter in the inverted Caverns.
| Sound File | Person | Dialogue | Note |
|---|---|---|---|
| Death | Young master has grown strong indeed. | Probably meant for after he is defeated. |
Dracula Battle
Alternate dialogue during the Dracula encounter at the end of the game.
| Sound File | Person | Dialogue | Note |
|---|---|---|---|
| Alucard | Once again it seems we must come to blows. | Beginning of cutscene. | |
| Alucard | Farewell father. Believe it or not I shall miss you. | After Dracula's defeat. | |
| Alucard | The link is broken. The castle is starting to crumble. | Just before Alucard begins to exit the castle. |
Unused Ending
A series of unused dialogue can be found among the game's sound files which seem to be part of an unfinished ending. It suggests that Maria could have intervened during the Richter fight and saved Richter herself, but would have subsequently become possessed or transformed by Shaft. It seems to include both winning and losing quotes for a prospective evil Maria battle, and ends with Alucard reflecting on the apparent passing of both Richter and Maria after she makes the castle collapse. While Maria can be fought (and played as) in the later Saturn and PSP editions, it is not under the same circumstances and does not result in a new ending. This event may have been the outcome of skipping the Holy Glasses, or perhaps the Richter battle was initially timed.
Regardless, no sprites were found that appear to be related to these mysterious recordings, though Yoshinori Suzuki did briefly talk about an unused set of completely alternate "Black Maria" sprites discarded in favor of a newer "light version" in the developer's notes of the Saturn version.
Transcript
Maria: Wait! Don't hurt Richter any more! Richter: Ma.. Maria? Maria: Richter! Richter: You saved me! Shaft?: If not for you, I would have lost this fool(?) Unknown Woman (Maria?): EEYAAAHH! Uh! Hahaha! Four demons, I hold you to your oath. Defend your master who commands you! Unknown Woman: Oh! Such power in such a little girl. Hahahaha! Unknown Woman: EEYAAAHHH! It won't end like this! You should be destroyed along with this castle. Hahaha! Alucard: It's over, but the sacrifice was great. Maria, Richter... I did not wish for you to die. Such is the fate of mortals. I'm certain that some dark force was behind Maria's transformation, but it doesn't matter now.
| To do: See if there is an equivalent (or even extended dialogue) inside the Japanese version. Shouldn't be too hard since there's a fan-translation out there and the people behind that may be able to tell us more. |
