The Atari 5200 SuperSystem was a hybrid of Atari's 8-bit computer hardware and 2600-style ROM-based game software, intended to supersede the aging 2600. Unfortunately, the still-booming 2600 software market, a general lack of post-launch interest by Atari, and the decision to not use self-centering joysticks meant that the SuperSystem lasted all of two years before being discontinued.
