Caravan was an annual contest held by Hudson Soft in Japan during the 1980s-90s that was basically a test of skill in some of their harder games. Think of it like Nintendo's various competitions, except we in the west know about this series.
There was also an SNES compilation of the first three entries, called Caravan Shooting Collection.
