The Game Boy finally had its meagre specifications boosted with the Game Boy Color, boasting a processor clocked at twice the speed of previous models, DMA for faster cartridge reads and a full (56-simultaneous) color display. As a bonus, it was even able to colorize monochrome games, with good-to-mixed results. To soften the blow for late-adopters, most of its early games were compatible with classic Game Boys.
