The results of outsourcing firm TOSE getting a little creative freedom and teaming up with Nintendo. The series features Starfy, the prince of Pufftop, who has traits of both a star and a starfish but is considered by the developers to be neither. Densetsu no Stafy 3 sees him team up with Wario for a period, with the latter using his Wario Land 4 sprites.
The series remained exclusive to Japan until the fifth entry, The Legendary Starfy, which got an English release.
