Nintendo's first serious attempt at 3D gaming, the Nintendo 64 was a powerhouse compared to the competition, but suffered from a variety of flaws - the most blatant being an insistence upon using expensive ROM cartridges, rather than optical media: a major issue Nintendo attempted to address with their short-lived 64DD Disk Drive add-on. While its flaws caused Nintendo to fall behind newcomer Sony, the console was still home to a variety of revolutionary experiences, like Super Mario 64.
