A piece of Americana, the first modern pinball design (plunger, flipper, etc.) was introduced in 1947, and the electromagnetic coin-ops have enjoyed a firm place in pop culture ever since. Sadly, the industry underwent severe downturns in the 1980s and 1990s, killing most manufacturers, but licensed tables and digital recreations like The Pinball Arcade seem to have breathed a little more life into the beast.

This category covers actual pinball machines and the contents of their ROMs. For pinball games on video game consoles, check those respective categories.
