Hmmm...
To do:
  • Additional unused content can be found here.
  • Document the text changes in the main game from Europe/U.S.
  • Document age changes, major personality changes, etc. from the Japanese copy to the U.S./European version. (For instance, Hubba from the DLC was made into a pervert for the U.S. release.)
  • Many files have build dates in their code, viewable with a hex editor. All of the files in the /bev folder have build dates. Document these.
  • Many models (particularly confession models) on this page don't display and/or animate properly in a model viewer. Record these with a 3DS capture card.

Fire Emblem Awakening lets you play matchmaker and pair up your favorite characters to create even more playable characters.

Unused Text

Old Hubba's Roster Entry

紹介文.bin

An old man who just sort of showed up. Mostly useless, though he can assess relationships.
Oh, and he's a few millennia old or something.
The one with the wildest love life. Born on February 29th.

At one point, Old Hubba was intended to be viewable in the roster. He has an entry in the roster right after Emmeryn. He is the last character in the roster data.

It can be assumed that Old Hubba was never intended to be a playable character, rather being an NPC with roster data, for the following reasons: Old Hubba has no model, texture, or stats. His birthday is written directly in the roster text, rather than being listed on a separate text file like all playable units' birthdays are.

A translation of Old Hubba's Japanese roster profile further confirms this, as it makes note of his poor fighting skills, and that he sits in a corner of the convoy.

An old man who appeared out of nowhere. Terrible at fighting, but can gauge relationships.
When the company marches, he sits in a corner of the convoy hidden by the luggage.
Apparently he’s been running a fortune-telling shop for over a millennia.
The one with the most experience of love. Born on 29th February.

Birthday Event Strings

Menu.bin

MID_MYROOM_誕生日終了: A birthday event has occurred!
MID_MYROOM_誕生日終了: Another birthday ended...
If only every day were like this!

While birthday events do occur in the barracks, there are no system messages for such an event. It's worth noting that there is an empty category in the sound archive for "SYS_BIRTHDAY". This may be related.

Second Ending Movie Name

The second prerendered cutscene that plays after the credits (if Robin lands the final blow on Grima) is not normally viewable in the Theater. However, it still has a name in the movie list:

Ending 2

...It's not a very creative name.

Unused Unit Names

Entries for a few unused characters are listed in GameData.bin. None of the below characters have descriptions.

Andrea

There is an entry for a character named Andrea. Andrea's name is located with the SpotPass characters.

(Source: http://serenesforest.net/awakening/general/unused-content/)

Leopold

An entry for "Leopold" exists between Cordelia and Nowi's entries.

(Source: http://serenesforest.net/awakening/general/unused-content/)

Mount Unit Names

Entries for "Minerva" and "Pegasus" exist between the "Ruffian" entry and "Bella"' entry. Considering the location of "Minerva" in the unit list, the entry is intended to be the Wveryn, rather than the character from the first Fire Emblem.

(Source: Robotortoise)

Bella

An entry for "Bella" exists between Minerva and Validar's entries.

(Source: Robotortoise)

Tracie

An entry for "Tracie" exists between Henry and Lucina's entries.

Unused Graphics

Debug Font

Fire-Emblem-Awakening-Debug-Font.png

A simple English debug font.

Gerome Unmasked Cut-In

"I only work in black and sometimes very, very dark grey."

Gerome has an unused cut-in portrait where he's unmasked. He never takes his mask off in battle, rendering this unused.

Phila (fully unused)

Fire_Emblem_Awakening_philla_crit_full.png

Phila has an unused critical hit cut-in sprite, yet she's never an actual unit, making this sprite unused. This means that she could have been a unit at some point in time.

Falchion Placeholder

Fire-Emblem-Awakening-Falchion-Placeholder.png

A placeholder that reads "Falchion (using a 3D model)".

Flame Placeholder

Fire-Emblem-Awakening-Gules-Placeholder.png

A similar placeholder that says "Scarlet Flame Gem (using a 3D model)". Scarlet Flame Gem (known as Gules in the North American release) is the red gem in the Shield of Seals.

Great Tree of Mila Placeholder

Fire-Emblem-Awakening-Tree-of-Mila-Placeholder.png

A location placeholder that translates to "Great Tree of Mila".

Test Forest Placeholder

Fire-Emblem-Awakening-Test-Forest-Texture.png

A forest themed texture used for testing.

Test Cut in

Tlp_CutIn.r

Hmmm...
To do:
This doesn't display correctly with Ohana. Record this ingame using a 3DS capture card.

A test critical cut-in that uses Flavia's face.

Placeholder Confession Graphics

Many of the "confession" scenes (the scenes where characters profess their love for the Avatar) have unused or hidden elements.

Unused Background used in many confessions

Tlp_Ev_c049.r/BG,Tlp_EV_c046.r/BG,etc.

FE A unused background.png

The above image, which is a render of the barracks scene with an XYZ axis visible, is located in the files for Yarne, Miriel, Aversa, and Emmeryn's confessions. Note: Aversa and Emmeryn, while technically being unlocked via SpotPass, are actually in the game's files, as are all SpotPass characters.

Tiki's Confession Ground Texture

Tlp_Ev_c048.r/BG

FE A Tiki unused background.png

Tiki's confession archive contains a texture for stone, oddly enough.

Gangrel Placeholder Confession

Hmmm...
To do:
This doesn't display correctly with Ohana. Record this ingame using a 3DS capture card. Record the animation, upload it, and compare it to the final revision.

Tlp_Ev_c047.r

He's like regular Gangrel, but marginally less reminiscent of Ganondorf.

Gangrel's confession is Tlp_Ev_c043.r, while this confession archive is 47. It is a copy of Gangrel's confession, but with less detail and an alternate color of Gangrel.

Fire-Emblem-Awakening-Syria-Dummy.png

This archive also contains an image of stone architecture with "dummy" written on top. This image is actually taken from someone's travelogue about their visit to Syria in 1995.

Placeholder Fredrick Confession

Tlp_Ev_c002.r

Hmmm...
To do:
This doesn't display correctly with Ohana. Record this ingame using a 3DS capture card.

The second confession listed in the game is Fredrick's confession, but with a different, simpler, animation and...no graphic for Fredrick, or Robin's hand.

Placeholder Maps

Elementary, my dear Cactus.
This needs some investigation.
Discuss ideas and findings on the talk page.
Specifically: Are these from a previous game in the series?

A significant amount of heavily compressed placeholder maps were left over.

Unused Models

bls/ls_teststage

Fire-Emblem-Awakening-Test-Model-1.png

A large empty cube. The model is named "cube", fittingly enough.

bls/ls_teststage_ground00

Fire-Emblem-Awakening-Test-Model-2.png

A long flat surface. Its model is named ground00.

bls/ls_teststage_ground01

Fire-Emblem-Awakening-Test-Model-3.png

A large background panel. The full texture is cut off because of the model's shape. The model is named ground01.

bls/ls_teststage_ground02

Fire-Emblem-Awakening-Test-Model-4.png

A bumpy terrain filled with trees. The model is named ground02_grp. The black on the trees is a rendering error.

Ending Credits Scene Secrets

bls/ls_UI_desktop_ground00

There are 2 textures that each correspond to a "book" in the background of the ending scene. However, the front of each book can't be seen, thus making these textures hidden.

Each texture says "The Book of Secrets".

Red book.

Blue book.

The front of the red book can be seen briefly, and its contents are visible, but because of the 3DS's low resolution, it's almost impossible to make out the words on the page. However, if one is to look at the texture itself, they can make out the words "Create a new layer" on the top of the right page.

Full book.

(Source: Serene's Forest)

The full model can be seen below.

"A good tactician's desk has nothing to fear."

"My desk strength is yours!"

The chair is also cut off. It has fully modeled chair feet, which are stuck into the ground.

I chairse...to SMASH! ...wait, wrong Fire Emblem.

Unused Textures

Support Background

The background that's used in the background of character supports is actually much bigger than what is seen on-screen. Only about half of the background is seen in-game during supports.

Full book.

Unused Sounds

Chrom's Japanese placeholder Confession

SE_VOICE_CHROM_EVT2_3.bcstm

This sound is one of two sound files to be untranslated from the Japanese version audio. It is a confession sound that says "好きだ。これからずっとお前のそばにいる", which translates to "I love you. I'll be with you from now on."

Lucina's Japanese placeholder Confession

SE_VOICE_MARTH_EVT2_3.bcstm

Lucina (who is internally named Marth) has a placeholder confession sound, too. Lucina says "今素直に愛を語ることはできません。それでも私は、いつもあなたを持っています", which translates to "Right now I can't show my feelings for you. Even so, I'll hold on to you forever."

Oddities

Olivia's S-Support

Not unused per se, but Olivia's S-Support with Chrom in the support log is completely different than the one that plays in Chapter 12. It's very likely that the one in the support log was made first, then was altered in the flashback to make more sense, as it doesn't make much sense for Olivia and Chrom to be talking about how much they've grown with each other....after knowing each other for the whole of one battle.

Regional Differences

Lissa's Prank

In Lissa and the Avatar's C-Support, two lines of dialogue were changed in the European version to fix a continuity error. It is possible to get this support before encountering Risen, so mentions of it were changed to bandits.

Europe USA
Nh...gnnkh...nnrrrrgh...! BWARGH! Wha-?! Bandits! Wolves! Bandits riding wolves! Nh...gnnkh...nnrrrrgh...! BWARGH! Wha-?! Risen! Wolves! Risen riding wolves!
And dreaming of bandits and wolves, apparently? Tee hee hee! And dreaming of Risen and wolves, apparently? Tee hee hee!

Shopping with Panne

Panne's dialogue for buying and selling at the armory was changed between the European and American versions. Her forging line was left untouched.

Europe USA
You can buy tools with this useless gold? Humans... What silly things you humans will trade gold for!
Mere coin will serve us poorly on the battlefield. I am amazed we can profit from such meager supplies.
