This is a sub-page of Gran Turismo 2.

One of Gran Turismo 2's key selling points was its huge variety of cars, boasting over 600 different models from 33 different manufacturers. However, during development there were more cars, some being left in the game's code. These cars are not normally obtainable, but through the use of hacks, they can be used. Many of these cars have their own logo in the game and are fully functional, indicating that they were removed relatively late in development.

Unused Cars with Unique Models

Car and Notes Image
Ford GT40 Mark III Race Car

A GT40 that never made it into the final product. It sports the Gulf/Mirage racing paint-job and, due to a glitch during modelling, a gray roof and engine cover. This car is purely fictional as the real life GT40 Mark III was only produced as a road car.

Mazda Speed RX-7 GT-C Racing Modifications

Similar to the Ford GT40, the RX-7 GT-C was originally going to have racing modifications. In the final game, it was made into its own car, the RX-7 GT-C LM Edition. Peculiarly, the original Racing Modification had a number 8 visible, whereas the final LM edition had no such number.

Acura NSX '93 Racing Modifications

The Racing Modification option for the Acura NSX '93 was removed during development, but the three paint schemes gold, red, and white, still remain in the files. The Japanese version of this car looked more like a typical NSX racing modification due to non-existence of NSX LM GT2 in the Japanese version of the first Gran Turismo (it has NSX GT1 Turbo instead)

Lotus Elise Soft Top

Originally, the Lotus Elise had a 'soft top' version. In the final game, only hard top versions exist. This car does not have a unique logo.

Mazda Roadster 1.8 RS

A Mazda Roadster with white paint and a lovely red stripe down the middle.

GT2-MX5-RS.png
Mazda Roadster 1.8 VS

Similar to the RS, the VS has gray paintwork with a dark red stripe.

GT2-MX5-VS.png
Mercedes CLK Race Car

Most sources linked the removal of the car with the removal of the Mercedes CLK-GTR from the game. Pictures of the CLK-GTR in a early build of GT2 existed.

Mercedes AMG E-55 with Gray paint

The AMG E-55 originally had a third, gray, paint option available, but this was removed from the final release, leaving only silver and black available.

GT2-AMG-Gray.png
Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution V Rally Car

This car can be purchased with a white colour scheme, but this red version cannot. The car itself is a non-tobacco version of the Winfield Lancer Evolution V that was raced by Tommi Mäkinen in the 1998 Rally Australia. The producer of the Gran Turismo series, Kazunori Yamauchi, has owned such car.

GT2 LancerEvolution5RallyCar.png
Mugen S2000

A Honda S2000 that has been custom-built by the engine-tuning and parts manufacturer Mugen Motorsports. While the regular Honda S2000 still shows up in the game, the Mugen S2000 never appears. This car did appear in Gran Turismo 3.

GT2 MugenS2000.png
Nissan Skyline 4-Door Racing Modifications

The 4-Door Skyline originally had Racing Modifications available with 2 paint schemes available, a gray and a yellow one.

GT2-Skyline-GTR-Gray.png
Toyota Prius Racing Modifications

While the Toyota Prius still exists in the final version of the game, its Racing Modifications were never implemented. It had two colour schemes, one red, one blue.

GT2-Prius-Red.png
Volkswagen Polo 1.4 16V

This car can sometimes show up in randomized races, but is never able to be used by the player without hacking.

Ford Ka Racing Modifications

Apart from the buyable Ka modifications, a second type exists that sports custom red wheels. The texture file is grouped along with the 'weird objects' below.

GT2-Ka-Two.png
Nissan Primera Racing Modification

The texture and nameplate place it amongst the Mercedes cars. This version lacks the Vodafone logo on the hood.

Non-car Driveable Models

As well as vehicles, a number of weird objects are available to drive with cheat devices. The textures are packed along with the cars, so these are not simply misappropriated graphics from menus or results screens.

Smiley Face

A very large green smiley face

Gleaming gold version of the Gran Turismo logo

GT2-Gold-Logo.png
First Place Trophy

A very large gold trophy on tiny wheels. There is a gold trophy on top of the plinth, but it's too large to fit in the garage screen

GT2-Large-Trophy.png
Small Trophy

According to the texture name, this was at one point a second MX-5 1.6 S-Package racing modification (hence the nameplate). Obviously, that content's been deleted and in its place is this small, tilted trophy.

GT2-Small-Trophy.png
Arcade Loading Background

Perhaps most bizarre of all, the background from the Arcade disc's race loading screen!

GT2-Arcade-Background.png

Nameplate Only Cars

These are cars that have unique logos and handling, but use a placeholder model.

GT2-CastrolMugen-Name.png

Castrol Mugen Accord

Only the logo remains for this car. It was probably linked to the racing modification of the 1996 Honda Accord (which is based on the real car driven by Osamu Nakako in the Japanese Touring Car Championship). The texture assigned to the car has very slight differences to the Toyota Altezza 280T racing modification, with an extra Enkei logo.

GT2-GT40R-Name.png

Ford GT40 1969 Racing Modifications

The Ford GT40 Race Car was originally going to be acquired by performing racing modifications on an ordinary GT40. In the final game the GT40 Race Car was made into its own car.

GT2-RexSuper-Name.png

Subaru Rex SuperCharger VX

Only the logo remains for this car. A model was never made.

Mercedes C-Class Touring Car

No model was ever made, only a logo shows it existed.

GT2-RUFBR2-name.png

RUF BR2

A RUF that exists in the form of a logo only.

GT2-RUFBR4-name.png

RUF BR4

Yet another RUF that only has a logo.

GT2-RUFBTR4-name.png

RUF BTR4

Another RUF, only has a logo again.

GT2-RUFCR4-name.png

RUF CR4

Another RUF that only has a logo.
