Luigi's Mansion (Nintendo 3DS)

From The Cutting Room Floor
Revision as of 15:47, 18 October 2018 by Hiccup (talk | contribs) (the edit regarding the usage in the original game didn't make sense, and there isn't complete documentation or tools for the formats contained within the dummy2 file in either game so there is no way to tell if they are the same)

Cactus 2.0!
This article has just been started and needs the article basics added.
Help us out and add them.

Luigi's Mansion for the Nintendo 3DS is the remake of the popular GameCube game. While it takes the basis from the sequel, several new features such as amiibo compatibility, a new Boss Rush mode makes it more fun with the spooky action, now in eye-popping 3D!

Unused Models

Stake

LM3DS-Stake.png

r11_stake_01 is found in mapmdl\map2\room_11 (the Balcony models folder). This was used (redundantly) in the original game.

Dummy

Elementary, my dear Cactus.
This needs some investigation.
Discuss ideas and findings on the talk page.
Specifically: Check if this differs from the file in the original in terms of actual data.

dummy2.bas in the model folder appears to be a conversion of the dummy2.arc file in the original game. A copy of this file also exists in the Download Play child ROM under the name telesa3.gar, which in the main ROM is the model archive used for Boos.

Unused Audio

E3 2001 Title Sound

File:LM3DS Audio E3 GreenCube 0000039B 1.ogg The E3 2001 Title Sound is still unused. This time, there is a sequence that plays this sound called JA_SE_SYS_TITLE_BGM.

Shaders

DebugShader.shbin

Located in \shaders is a file called DebugShader.shbin. It's possible it was related to a debug function.

DummyShader.shbin

Also located on the same folder is DummyShader.shbin. It's a dummy shader, that's it.

Oddities

Invisible Poster in The Twins' Room

Like in the Gamecube original, there is an invisible "poster" on the wall of The Twin's Room that Luigi can interact with. It has no collision and cannot be scanned using the Gameboy Horror. While it may seem this is the result of importing the furniture data directly from the original, another invisible object located on The Roof in the original was removed.

Unseen Wall

LM3DS-Training Room back wall.png

The back wall of the Training Room is modelled, but you can't see it because you can't use the Game Boy Horror in this area.

Internal Project Name

The game's internal project name is "GreenCube" according to the bcsar filename and "GreenCubeU" according to multiple strings in the executables.
