This is a sub-page of Minecraft: Java Edition/Version Differences/April Fools.

On March 31st, 2016, an update was made to Minecraft titled 1.RV-Pre1. Mojang titled the update "The Trendy Update", and released the first pre-release update the day before April Fools, for some odd reason. The announcement for said update can be found here.

Additions

Blocks

USB Charger Block

The USB Charger Block is a new block that functions the same as a redstone block, emitting a redstone signal with strength 15. It has a blast resistance of 30 and hardness of 3, and it can also stack up to 64.

Items

Reality Vision

Reality Vision is a new piece of equipment that is is equipped via the helmet armor slot.

  • When equipped, it shows a minimap in the bottom-center of the screen (which moves when the player's camera moves).
    • The minimap shows all chunks that are currently rendered.
    • The player's location is represented by a green beacon beam marker on the map.
  • The item will make a sound when equipped.
  • The goggles display vision overlay (similar to the pumpkin overlay).
  • The overlay will change to a new overlay if the player goes into third person (unlike the pumpkin overlay), making the screen appear like an old television screen.
  • The overlay is called "cantseeshitcaptain.png" in the assets folder.
  • The item activates a shader when equipped (scan_pincushion).
  • For some odd reason, the goggles are stackable to 64, unlike every other piece of equipment in the game.
  • Signs display the text "OBEY" while glasses are equipped, a reference to the movie They Live.

Ankle Monitor

The ankle monitor is a new item that is equipped via the "boots" armor slot.

  • It'll make a sound each time the player gets a notification.
  • When equipped in Survival mode, they can't be taken off.
    • Can be taken off in Creative mode.
    • This behavior was later introduced into Minecraft with the Java Edition 1.11 snapshot 16w39a, in the form of the "Curse of Binding" enchantment.
  • This item gives the player Slowness I effect when equipped.
  • If the player moves too far from the world spawn at nighttime, it will display the text "CURFEW WARNING! You are violating your house arrest! Get back by X meters!" (where X is the distance).
  • When the player travels to another dimension, it displays various messages from the monitor, in a special order.
    • "CURFEW WARNING!"
    • "You are violating your house arrest!"
    • "Uuuh... where are you, anyway?"
  • For some odd reason, ankle monitors are stackable to 64, unlike every other piece of equipment in the game.

Smarter Watch

The smarter watch is a new item that is equipped in the off-hand slot.

  • It shows the time above the hotbar where item tooltips are shown in 24-hour time (18:00 and 22:00 for example).
  • It'll make a sound each time the player gets a notification.
  • Push notifications in the chat whenever a statistic reaches 10, 20, 30 ... 100, 200, 300 ... etc.
    • For example: "Notice! [Distance Flown] is now 600!"
  • Other messages are shown when the player takes damage and sometimes even shows item specific information in chat when items are crafted.
  • For some odd reason, smarter watches are stackable up to 64, unlike every other piece of equipment in the game.

Changes

Mobs

  • Mobs now have a chance of being equipped with any of the 3 items in listed above in the "Additions" section.
    • When they wear the reality vision, they will not attack the player, even if the player attacks them.
      • However, endermen with reality vision will still attack when looked at.

Signs

  • Signs have a different unique texture.
  • Sign text is now green.
