Mortal Kombat II (SNES)
|Mortal Kombat II|
Also known as: Mortal Kombat II: Kyuukyoku Shinken (JP)
This game has a prototype article
After the massive controversy about MK1's neutering at the hands of Nintendo's content guidelines, the go-ahead was given for more violent games to appear on Nintendo platforms. As such, the MK2 port was practically arcade-perfect, except you didn't have to shove coins into your cartridge slot every ten seconds when fighting the ever-cheap bosses.
The Japanese version of MK2 is unique in that it features censorship. Blood is recolored green, and the game palette fades into grey-scale when a Fatality begins. It's not known whether this was done to appease Nintendo of Japan, or the Japanese ratings board CERO.
