| This article is a work in progress. ...Well, all the articles here are, in a way. But this one moreso, and the article may contain incomplete information and editor's notes. |
Painkiller: Black Edition is a rather excellent arena shooter game with some of the most wildest guns ever conceived, like a gun firing shurikens and lightning! The Black Edition of Painkiller includes the Battle out of Hell expansion which is basically a collaboration of cut content being released as a retail product. It also added some more cut content so that's just dandy.
Contents
Early HUD
Alastor Boss Icon
Alastor had a derp face as his boss health icon before being replaced by something which looked less silly. This was used in the press build of the game.

Early Health Icon
Early Ammo Icons
Early ammo icons. The rifle icon is interesting as it may have been intended to be used in the cut Assault Rifle weapon. It is unknown what the cartridges icon was used for. It is possible it is an early minigun ammo icon. The stake icon is used in the press build of the game.

Health and Minigun Counter
The minigun icon hints at an earlier rendition of the minigun/rocket launcher weapon.

Demon Count
Judging from the file name, it is most likely a graphical representation of how many demon souls you have collected needed to morph into demon form (which is replaced by a numerical counter in retail) or it's a representation of how many enemies you have killed.

Early Score Counter
Early HUD utilizing a transparent version of the "demon count" graphic. This version does not have a compass (instead replaced by a skull) and lacks the graphical indicators of what each number indicates (a star and soul symbol from left-to-right).
Separators
The first image separated the health and armor digit. The second image separated the main and secondary ammo counts. Both go unused and have no replacements.

Compass Icon
The final compass icon looks much more detailed than this simple red arrow.

Unused Font
This font was originally used to keep track of the player's health, armor, ammo, and secondary ammo. It looks incredibly cartoony. The filename "cyfry" translates to "digits."
Demo Graphics
These graphics were used in the demo version of Painkiller. These are located in the Textures.pak/HUD directory.

Bootup Screens
The first image is used in the non-Black Edition of the game, but in the Black Edition version it does not appear. The Battle out of Hell bootup screen has never been seen in any retail releases, as Battle out of Hell never received a standalone release.

Heaven's Got a Hitman Leftovers
Black Edition replaced many of the HUD graphics from the Heaven's Got a Hitman version with different graphics. As a result, the original graphics go unused.

Cut Tarot Cards
Summon Cards
Battle out of Hell introduced three cards which were cut from the final game. All three serve a similar purpose; to give the player a friend to help kill things. The cut cards are:
| Summon Fighter | Summon Golem | Summon Warrior |
|---|---|---|
It is currently unknown if these cards can be used properly. Also fun fact: the characters depicted on the cards are multiplayer characters.
Haste IV
This image isn't unused at all, but it hints at an unused card no longer in the game called Haste IV. The highest tiered Haste card available in the game is Haste III. The only remnant of Haste IV is this image used to enter the Tarot Card menu. Another detail of this card is that the card's name is on the card, which does not occur on any other card in the game.
