Persona 5 is the latest in the series of Persona 4 spin-off games. Don't let the title fool you.

Hmmm...
To do:
Dubious textures, probably some more unused graphics, unused weapons. There's more unused areas.

A development related UI left in the game's executable.

Persona-4-Dancing-Debug-Font.png

A simple debug font, identical to the one found in Persona 4: Dancing All Night. This, along with various identical file formats highly suggest that Persona 5 runs on a variant of the same engine.

2015 Portraits

These portraits are from early 2015, and all share the same art style. There is a base portrait for each, accompanied by eye and mouth overlays. Ryuji's portrait and a close-up of Ann's eyes can be seen in the first trailer for Persona 5, which was released in February 2015. These portraits were far more animated, as can be seen in the trailer. Ryuji's portrait is fully animated with a head tilt back that eventually lands on the idle portrait leftover in the game. All of the eye and mouth overlays have been applied to the base in separate versions below for easier viewing. The last portrait in each set is the character's used portrait, displayed for comparison. The protagonist doesn't have any conversational portraits in this style, so there's no comparison available for him. The final game uses a traditional portrait setup, very similar to Persona 4: Dancing All Night.

These additional portraits for Ryuji don't entirely match the 2015 art style. The blinking frames for the first portrait are the same as the base. The second portrait is much closer to the final compared to the 2015 design.

An early version of the protagonist's All Out Attack portrait was left in the game. Both the early and final versions differ drastically from the initial design seen in pre-release footage. Between the early and final versions, the protagonist's face was heavily altered along with the back of his neck and a small bit of hair.

Persona-5-Flashback-Placeholder-BG.png

A placeholder background image for a flashback. It's worth noting that this image is 1024x512, while final flashback backgrounds are 1280x720.

Tutorial Images

Hmmm...
To do:
Compare final controller images.

All of the images in this section are for various tutorial prompts throughout the game, intended as visual aid for whatever concept or mechanic is being described. They can be found in \font\system\field.

Unused Models

P5-mouseakechi.png

A mouse form for Akechi, complete with animations. The only things capable of inflicting the Rattled status are the Mot enemies in Futaba's Palace and the Mementos Depths, as well as the statue puzzles in Shido's Palace. Akechi doesn't join the Thieves until long after Futaba's Palace is completed and leaves before Shido's Palace, rendering this unused.

P5-hablerie.png

A hablerie from Persona 4. More specifically, the type found in Yukiko's Castle. Likely here for testing purposes as it's the first model in the "items" folder (it0000_000). In addition, a giant plain lime green billboard texture can be found in the "items" folder with the filename it0000_007.

P5-gun.png A gun with a giant pink kanji meaning "left" floating above it.

A few pieces of official Persona 4/Golden artwork are used as a small nod to the previous game, however a fan's artwork is also thrown in the mix for some reason without their knowledge. The source fan artwork can be found here.

Akihabara Film Posters

Hmmm...
To do:
Source Ocean's Eleven & add more textures that include posters/covers.

A large number of film posters used in various parts of Akihabara are actually real movie posters and DVD covers squished down to a tiny resolution. These films originate from the US and Japan, and also include a fan made Star Wars film.

Unused Area

The game contains an unused area which is modeled after the dormitory area seen in Persona 3. This may have been a test area used in the early stages of the game's development.

Regional Differences

Ryuji's shoes have the rising sun symbol removed in the Korean version, due to its association with Japanese imperialism.
