Persona 5 is the latest in the series of Persona 4 spin-off games. Don't let the title fool you.

Hmmm...
To do:
Dubious textures, unused weapons, cutscenes. There's more unused areas. Finish unused Persona list. Try finding out if the mouse puzzles in the unused Kamoshida Rooms still work.

Unused Cutscenes

Hmmm...
To do:
Get more details on these cutscenes including video..

A few unused cutscenes are in the game. One is one Joker outside the 5th palace, firing a gun up in the air to attract the police. Another even is of Joker being arrested by the police while in Leblanc Cafe. The strange dialogue that has Joker get text choices of "submitting" or being confused at the situation implies this is for the extremely late section of the game.

Unused Models

the great mouse detective

A mouse form for Akechi, complete with animations. The only things capable of inflicting the Rattled status are the Mot enemies in Futaba's Palace and the Mementos Depths, as well as the statue puzzles in Shido's Palace. Akechi doesn't join the Thieves until long after Futaba's Palace is completed and leaves before Shido's Palace, rendering this unused.

he has no style he has no grace

Joker's Phantom Thief model with an amusing face overlayed.

P5-hablerie.png

A hablerie straight from Persona 4. More specifically, the type found in Yukiko's Castle. Likely here for testing purposes as it's the first model in the "items" folder (it0000_000). In addition, a giant plain lime green billboard texture can be found in the "items" folder with the filename it0000_007.

P5-gun.png

A gun with a giant pink kanji symbol saying "left" floating above it.

Early Models

Earlier versions of several characters models can be found unused in the game's data. A lot of these models have animations attached that appear corrupted when loaded into model viewing software, but load perfectly fine in-game. A video of some of these unused animations in action can be viewed here.

Ren Amamiya

An earlier version of the protagonist's school uniform, where he looked a little more scruffier, as well as looking more like a delinquent. This model can be seen in early footage of Persona 5.

Early Final
P5-earlyren.png P5-finalren.png

Ryuji Sakamoto

Earlier Ryuji's hair is a darker shade of blonde. He also has buttons... on the other side of his jumper? What a rebel.

Early Final
P5-earlyryuji.png P5-finalryuji.png

Ann Takamaki

Ann's early model loads oddly in rendering software. As her skeleton renders to a laying down animation, but only her head calibrates to the skeleton, the rest of her body loads in a classic T-pose. As such, both the head and body of her early model have been included as seperate images.

In terms of differences, early Ann's skirt is shorter than in the final, and her pigtails are messier.

Early Final

P5-earlyannbody.png
P5-finalann.png

Morgana

Early Morgana wears the scarf of his Metaverse form aroud his neck, instead of a yellow collar. He is also more realistic looking than the final's Morgana. His design was probably changed due to how horrifying his earlier model looked.

Early Final
Have fun trying to sleep after seeing this. P5-finalmorgana.png

Sojiro

The earlier Sojiro wears garishly bright clothing in comparison to the final's. He also has gray hair and doesn't appear hunched over, unlike final Sojiro.

Unused Textures

P5-darkcrow.pngP5-crowtex1.png

An alternate texture for Goro Akechi's Phantom Thief outfit exists in the game but goes unused. This texture depicts him with darker colors than his regular metaverse outfit. This texture is smaller than the one used for his outfit in game (512x512 and 256x256 compared to 1024x1024 and 512x512), so it appears stretched out when applied to his model.

:)

The textures for King Frost have an image of a smiley face inside the smile of the face texture, which isn't mapped to any part of its model.

Unused Areas

Placeholder Room

P5-dummyfield.pngTexture rip

Room filename: f000_100_0.GFS. A room with a texture reading ダミーフィールド (Dummy Field) repeatedly over the floor and walls. The cylindrical shape implies it was used as a test battlefield at some point.

Kamoshida's Palace

As seen in early gameplay footage, the dungeon area of Kamoshida's Palace was originally meant to be larger than what is seen in the final game, and originally contained the mouse puzzles which would eventually be moved to Shido's Palace.

File:P5-kamoshidapit.png

Room filename: f052_053_0.GFS. A cylindrical room containing several cages suspended over a pit. A duplicate of this room with a smaller filesize can be found at f052_071_0.GFS.

P5-kamoshidaratpuzzle1.png Let's take a closer look

Room filename: f052_090_0.GFS. A cut dungeon area featuring the mouse puzzle seen in early gameplay footage.

f052_043_0.GFS contains a room with several wooden platforms suspended over a pit.

Unused Personas

0D2 contains a unique version of Loki, the Persona used by the traitor during their boss fight. It is classed under the Justice Arcana, but is unfinished, and it lacks any weaknesses or resistances and has no skills programmed. It also lacks a unique Compendium description, and uses a placeholder description. When summoned during battle, it uses blue lighting like a regular Persona, instead of the red lighting effects used during the traitor fight. It likely was intended to be used for Goro Akechi, as unused voice clips exist of him calling Loki's name. If Loki is hacked to be Goro's Persona, he will use those voice clips when performing a critical hit.

Another version of Loki can be found at 0EE, however, it crashes the game if a battle is started with it in the player's Persona stock.

Aside from Loki, several more unused Personas exist in the game. Most of these Personas seem to have been carried over from previous games, and have no model data in this game so they are invisible in the Status screen and when summoned in battle. The protagonist has no corresponding voice clips for calling out any of these Personas. None of these Personas seem to have skills programmed.

Unused Skills

Several unused skills exist within the game but go unused.

Hex ID Name Element Description Target Notes
186 Trafuri Status Escape 100% successfully from most battles. Entire party Both of these skills appeared in previous Persona installments but go unused here. Trafuri costs 24SP to use, and Traesto costs 18SP. Both of these skills appear to go unused as they are rendered redundant by the Vanish Ball and Goho-M, respectively.
187 Traesto Status Return to the entrance of the Metaverse. Entire party
1C0 Whip Strike Physical BLANK One enemy Located between Tongue Whip and Lustful Slurp. Appears to have been intended for Suguru Asmodeus Kamoshida.
291 Lust Sphere Almighty Medium Almighty dmg to all foes. All enemies Has a description which is identical to the one used for Megido. Appears to also have been intended for Suguru Asmodeus Kamoshida, given the skill name and the animation resembling his Gold Medal Spike.

Unused Items

  • The Hero with a Bow: an unused book for Robin Hood, Goro Akechi's Persona. It never appears in the Shujin Academy library even after he joins.

Unused Arcana Entry

There is an entry in the Arcana name table for the Aeon Arcana. There is no Confidant who represents the Aeon Arcana in game, and no corresponding tarot card for this Arcana exists. The Aeon Arcana has traditionally appeared in the enhanced editions of games in the Persona series since Persona 3 FES, what it's doing here is a mystery.

Oddities

Internal Names

Several places in the game's data (such as datCharaOrder.bmd) refer to Haru as Ranko internally.

Likewise, nearly every instance internally refers to Chihaya as "uranai", which literally translates to Fortune Teller/Diviner. What stands out about this particularly is that Chihaya is the only confidant in the game who isn't referred to by their name internally.

The textures for Yaldabaoth's model are labelled as "metathron". Neither Yaldabaoth or Metatron share any textures so the reason for this naming is unknown.

A few pieces of official Persona 4/Golden artwork are used as a small nod to the previous game, however a fan's artwork is also thrown in the mix for some reason without their knowledge. The source fan artwork can be found here.

Akihabara Film Posters

Hmmm...
To do:
Source Ocean's Eleven & add more textures that include posters/covers.

A large number of film posters used in various parts of Akihabara are actually real movie posters and DVD covers squished down to a tiny resolution. These films originate from the US and Japan, and also include a fan made Star Wars film.

Regional Differences

Hmmm...
To do:
Find Images comparing the two differences.

Ryuji's shoes have the rising sun symbol removed in the Korean version, due to its association with Japanese imperialism.
