Pokémon GO is the franchise's first step into the world of getting players to GO out and have a good time in their towns while they circle around landmarks in hopes of catching any rare ones. It's rather infamous too, because of the hype that surrounded it since it got announced.
It caused the fandom to overflow with twenty-somethings that watched the original anime series during their childhoods and knockoff guides appearing all over in and out of the virtual world. It was also critized for bad connection problems (especially since release), lack of proper features, and money-pushing sales like other popular apps.
Otherwise, it's a neat idea that made the franchise more known in the community despite the infamousness it had at the beginning.

Unused Graphics
Placeholder Photo
A placeholder photo named ModelViewerSamplePhoto. This image seems to be horizontally stretched in the iOS release and horizontally squished in the Android release. This photo was taken next to the monument Cupid's Span in San Francisco, California where Niantic's headquarters are located.

There are Pokédex renders for Articuno, Zapdos, Moltres, Mew, and Mewtwo. These Pokémon are currently not available in the game although, incomplete data can be seen in the decoded data dump for the unused Pokémon. They will come along Lugia and Ho-Oh in special Raid Battles.
Unused Flying-Type Background
When viewing a Pokémon's summary screen, a background is placed behind the Pokémon representing their primary type. There is a background for 18 types, but since there are no primary Flying-type Pokémon (until Generation V's Tornadus and Generation VI's Noibat and Noivern), it is impossible to see this background in normal gameplay, as Normal/Flying-type Pokémon simply use the Normal-type background.
Unused Items
An icon for the Honey item is present in the game. In mainline games, it can be used to start a battle against a wild Pokémon immediately. Unlike other unused items, the icon is all that's left of the Honey item. Also present are four icons for unused types of berries, two of which resemble the Razz Berry, while the other two do not.
Unused Items
Master Ball
| v0.23.3 | v0.31.0 |
|---|---|
The Master Ball, found in all main Pokémon games, is present but unused. If hacked into the game, it behaves as it does in other Pokémon games, catching Pokémon with a 100% success rate. The texture was altered in v0.31.0 along with all of the other Poké Balls, making it brighter and adding missing detail to the button.
Unused Models
Models for both used and unused types of berries. The final game uses a static image of the Razz Berry rather than a model.

*IF CHANGE LAYOUT MAKE SURE GRID FITS TON OF ITEMS*
A note from one of the game’s designers to whomever is in charge of designing the item screen’s layout.
Trading Screen
Unfinished scripts for a trading screen are present in the game's data. If loaded, they will display a blank screen with a close button on the bottom.
Revisional Differences
Pokémon GO Plus
| v0.23.3 | v0.31.0 |
|---|---|
The icon for the Pokémon GO Plus accessory. It was changed in v0.31.0 to a different icon that better matches the game's art style.
Kanto Medal
The original condition for the Kanto medal was "Register x Pokémon in the Pokédex." In v1.27.2, when most Generation II Pokémon were added to the game, it was changed to "Register x Pokémon first discovered in Kanto Region to the Pokédex."
