This article is a work in progress.
...Well, all the articles here are, in a way. But this one moreso, and the article may contain incomplete information and editor's notes.

October 2000

The earliest known build of Mario Kart: Super Circuit, seen in the October 2000 issue of Nintendo Official Magazine.

Mario Circuit

Prerelease Final
Air Head Kart Mkcircuit finalmariocircuit.PNG

This picture is shows an early version of Mario Circuit. There are numerous differences form the final:

  • The character sprites are very different. Most notably, they had very large heads.
  • The trees are different, and there's a lot of more of them than in the final.
  • "LAP" and "TIME" are in a more cartoony looking font than the final.
  • The track layout is different, according to the minimap.
  • There are no coins.
  • The grass off the track has a smoother transition to the sand.
  • Mugshots and current place in the race are missing.

January 2001

A later build on the game from January 2001. The character sprites no longer have large heads, but rather have been changed to watered down sprites from Mario Kart 64.

Boo Lake

Prerelease Final

  • The road is a lighter shade of brown.
  • The sky is much brighter.
  • The layout is slightly different as shown on the minimap. One of the curves is longer in the prerelease than the final.
  • The dots on the minimap that locate the racers are bigger.
