Hmmm...
To do:
Everything that isn't here

Sonic 3C 408 is a prototype for a canceled Sonic 3 and Sonic & Knuckles compilation that would have been called "Sonic the Hedgehog 3 Limited Edition". There is a later-in-development prototype called Sonic 3C 517 that was also found. When this beta was obtained by drx the file was labeled 3C indicating this was a unreleased version of Sonic 3. Due to the late development date (dating after Sonic 3's release) it's obvious this isn't Sonic 3 before it was split into 2 games.

General Differences

Tails and Knuckles have incomplete super forms, since the art has yet to be made. Likewise, Hyper Sonic is not in the game yet.

The ending sequences have yet to be implemented.

No special stage rings have been implemented in the S&K zones.

The save format is identical to the one found in Sonic 3.

Knuckles has a different underwater palette.

The Sonic 3 music for mini-bosses, Knuckles, and collecting 1-ups has yet to be changed to their Sonic & Knuckles versions.

Cheat Codes

Level select is enabled by default, so you can just go down to 'Sound Test' at the main menu.

In the sound test, you can press the following combinations:
01, 03, 05, 07 - Enables debug mode
02, 04, 06, 08 - Get all the chaos emeralds

You can also use the following patch codes:

FFFFE2:0001 - Enable debug mode

Levels

Bonus Stages

At this point in development, they are very unfinished.

The orbs bonus stage has no collision, partially complete graphics, and a preliminary animating background. As a result, you can only really die here.

File:Sonic3c408bonusstage2.png
The slot machine bonus stage has more rings, no goal signs, and a static background.

Angel Island Zone

Knuckles can go to Sonic's path. However, the boss always spawns at Knuckles' path, causing him to get stuck.

Flying Battery Zone

Several sound effects are absent.

Lava Reef Zone

Act 2 is a bit incomplete, since the palette has yet to be changed to indicate a freeze-over.

Sky Sanctuary Zone

The air ducts are not active while Knuckles is going to enable the bridge. There seems to palette conflicts

Hidden Palace Zone

This is quite unfinished. It does not play its unique music, but Sky Sanctuary's. The player also does not run in. In the hidden area, there's a Super Sonic monitor.

Doomsday Zone

It's really incomplete, only having the boss graphic and a background. As a result, the only thing you can do is fall to your death over and over again. You can use debug mode and fly over to a section with glitchy collision.
